What the Red Shirts where doing ............

    from the blogworld ...................

On Saturday night until the early hours of Sunday morning, the mainly pro-Thaksin red shirts/UDD held a concert at Bonanza at Khao Yai, around three hours northeast of Bangkok. Some photos of the event are here, here, and here. According to Matichon, police estimated the crowd was about 20,000.

I just checked, no mention in both the Nation and the Bangkok Post, they only talked about the PAD "peaceful" rally with a picture of people covered in blood on the first page.

20,000 people enjoying music against 15,000 violent hooligans for the PAD, who said Thaksin was history ?

If the police say that there were 20 thousand there, you can bet it was more like a hundred thousand.Of course the Nation and the Bangkok Post didn't mention it, they are doing what they always did, supporting whoever is in power.

Blimey Perota you crawled out of your (what ya listening to) home just to throw that bitchy little one liner into the mix?

For a moment there I almost forgot you're a Frenchman

Now you've had your say you'd better scurry off back home before Ze Jermans get here and the big boys have to protect you again

Violence? I thought a small bomb caused the injuries?

From the photos it looks like less than 20K....

I guess you're a red shirt follower then?

So you think the Sondhi "hit" was just sloppy? One hundred and something rounds into a small SUV and barely a scratch (which even that was figured to be "doctored").

To answer your question in a word: YES

    Yes to it being sloppy.

If it was all an act, then it was rather excessive don't you think?

Doctored you say? I didn't read that...if there's proof of this, I'd certainly be swayed. Could you point me to a news item about this?

I don't take sides in this silliness. Not sure why so many farangs feel a need to either, I remain open minded. As I think we all should.

No, I just call bullshit when I see it. I support neither. Both are disingenuous and both seek power and the corruption and abuse that go with it.

    Not everyone is myopic.

I take it you've sided with the reds then?

I don't live in Thailand and have no plans to ever do that. Really I am much more interested in the Philiipipines.

But whatever is blamed on Thaksin, I don't believe in democracy being served by repeatedly pushing out elected governments. The red shirts want an elected government back, the yellow shirts want the opposite.

So yes I have taken sides. That does not mean I totally agree with them or even know what exactly they stand for.

It's a difficult choice to be sure.

    As Bart would say...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Certainly the yellow shirts represent a nationalism that is anti-democratic and authoritarian, but the red shirts would have Thaksin back in a heartbeat and he is only surpassed in his corrupt cronyism by, ironically, Hun Sen. Thaksin would grab absolute power if the opportunity arose. He's a vile individual.

Both camps are dangerous to the fortunes of Thailand.

I fear something else. I believe they don't want another coup.

Instead the next elections could be rigged the way they were in the Philippines. That is worse than another coup.
