I have in the past tried to get my Thai wife to give something that we no longer use, to someone who might need it, to no avail. From her poor past, why give something away that she might could use at some point in her future. She got really mad at me for giving away our child seat for the motorcycle, as we no longer used it, to a person who I knew that could use it. Thais look at this sort of thing differently from those of us from the west.

My GF lives in Pinklao, in an area accessible only by foot or motorbike. the sort of neighborhood where you would find middle class living next to the dirt poor. a typical suburban thai neighborhood.
anyway, my GF's grandmother passed away about 6 months ago. during her last 12 months she used a walker to get around.
last week, an elderly man from down the road had his daughter walk him over to my GF's house. with tears in his eyes he offered his condolences to the family and humbly asked if the walker was being used. he explained that he has not been mobile for nearly 2 years and that the walker would go to good use. my GF's mom gave him the walker as she knew the man's financial and physical situation. she also saw that this was not a scam or in anyway someone looking for a handout, instead just someone desperate enough to swallow his pride and ask for help.

my GF works irregular hours at her office. some nights she doesn't return home until 10 or 11pm. she noticed that since her family gave the walker to this man, he waits up every night without fail to look over her while she walks home from the parking lot. in his own way repaying them for the gift.

maybe just me but i found this story to be extremely sweet.

He's probably sitting at the window with a raging hard on, blowing a load every time she pops past, not that I am at all cynical of Thais.

Only joking, it is good to hear a bit of good news now and again, before they go to war with Cambodia.

To be on the safe side I'd wait a week or two and see if you can see through the old cripples windows, or are they opaque and encrusted in semen? Is he looking higher from the window each day,,,,
