yes. i will answer my own question after I have stayed there. Unfortunately its just a flying visit. Overnight stay in Pattaya as I have a ship to see at Map Ta Phut and then straight off to Taiwan.

I've found that the reviews on Tripadvisor.com are pretty reliable. So far there's only been two written for the new Holiday Inn Pattaya:

Well the room is nice enough. And the location was good for me (I was here for a bit of rest before going to work, not for whoring) as its at the quieter end of Beach Road, just next to Amari Orchid. I had a no smoking room but you can smoke on the balcony if you want.

The water doesnt drain out of the shower properly as the slope goes away from the drain (nice one) and the floor is very slippery as a result. No doubt they will supply a rubber mat in the shower once someone falls down and cracks their head open.

There is a fridge but it is empty. No biggie as Family Mart is not too far away.

Breakfast is not included in the room price (even at the regular 3200 baht a night or 3700 after tax etc that was arranged by my company travel agent). Not sure how much the buffet breakfast is but the room service American breakfast is 525 baht.

The internet connection costs a pretty substantial 650 baht for 24 hours or 19 baht per minute.

Room service food is a bit expensive too. 320 baht for phad thai. Again not a biggie as there are plenty of other places to eat in the area.

All in all I will probably not stop here again unless Amari Orchid is fully booked (which it was on this occasion)

I was going to book this one this week-end actually,

1.990 THB++ for the grand opening seems reasonable but no breakfast, so a bit disappointing. The room I wanted were all in the 4000 THB++ range with breakfast, might as well go to the Sheraton for that one, and it is superb

it doesn't sound like a good value, with all the problems of an opening hotel. Shame you didn't take a look at their breakfast buffet or their diner restaurants, it would have been interesting.

Here is a pic what I took of the room.

    Standard reasonable class hotel room.

Note that there is not much privacy in the shower.
Although nice if you are with a lady, I would imagine that might be a bit unpleasant if you are travelling on the cheap and having a whole family staying in one room. Poor kids having to put up with the view of their dad soaping up his bollocks just a few metres away while they are trying to watch the telly. And poor Dad not being able to discreetly crack one off in the shower like he does at home.

Looks OK bt there are plenty of places just as good that are cheaper and have free internet connection. Thanks for the pic of the room which looks good.

^ Name some so I can pick one next time.

On the night after the job I stayed at the Siam Bayview again as none of my preferred hotels had any rooms available.

Slightly over 3000 baht. Room in the Garden Wing. Old and shite - the shower tap came off in my hand, horrible old linen on the bed, and 100 year old towels. No balcony (which sucked as I needed to dry out my work boots due to them getting wet when it was pissing down offshore)

Didnt try the internet as I was only there for a kip.

Breakfast average, but at least it was included in the room price.

phones and doorbells were rung in error,

the supply of towels by the pool was inadequate

the breakfast room couldn't cope with anywhere near the number of people looking to eat at peak time it was chaos with people milling around looking to dive on any seat that came free

Breakfast, on the day we had it, was passable but did not compare well to other comparable hotels.

Staff did not seem to know what to do with complaints

witnessed a guest shouting at staff for a prolonged period in the lobby with staff just looking puzzled as to what to do)

Internet wi-fi ..charges in the room are scandalous..Costs a fortune to get...and connection is .11 ..yes point 11.....on speed test..

    TV channels are pathetic...

Why build such a nice hotel, and not want to please guests
    No need to complain.
    Sounds about right for Thailand.

You certainly seem to be living the highlife sbf, I assume the internet connection at that price you actually get someone who types in the urls etc for you, hell, at that price you should be able to dictate your posts to them for them to type it for you

There's at least a million places equivalent to this gringo hotel in Pattaya and they will be a whole lot cheaper.
