Unfortunately no Thia media has pursued this situation to expose him as a man for himself and stuff everybody else.
thaksin sold a company he OWNED, and built up himself.
he took advantage of a loophole to AVOID paying tax (legal); took advantage of changing circumstances, and profited, just the same as any astute businessman in any part of the world would do.
all they managed to nail him on in the end was the fact that his WIFE made the highest bid on a land auction, won the bid and profited hugely by doing so.
if YOUR wife commits a "crime", would you think it just if YOU were the one to have to take the fall?
he ripped nobody off by selling off AIS: it was his own property.

{not defending Thaksin} Such accusations should include the history of corrupt scoundrels and scallywags that continue today to rip-off 'fellow Thais'. He has a wealth of company.

not living in a thai shithole at the moment.
i doubt anybody on the forum could say i have turned even a "neeedn'-beet" thai.
    wtf are you talking about?
thaksin owned the fukkn business and he sold it.
a loophole in the thai tax law allowed the sale to be made tax free.
the useless thai fuckwits that never did an honest days' work did not own ais.
ais was not a "national asset", it was one of thaksin's assets.
why the fkk should they have had any claim to the profits of the sale?
thaksin's wife made a land purchase,: won the bid on a public auction.
thaksin got nailed on this dodgy little "demeanor", coz the coup leaders, who had promised to provide evidence of his corruption and justify the coup could not come up with anything better.
in the meantime, the fact that the coup leaders who had thaksin "prosecuted for his crimes", changed the constitution to cover their OWN sorry arses and escape prosecution, seems to have somehow slipped everybody's minds.
i doubt that leading a coup to oust a democratically and legitemately elected leader (one who was voted in by a HUGE majority on a couple of different occasions) can be justified and legitimised on the grounds that his wife won a bid on a PUBLIC auction.

what i have posted is based on what i learned from observing this whole thing from a distance.
when i got to thailand, i did not even know who thaksin was.
if truth be told, my usual political stance would see me siding with abhisit, since i see paralells with what hapenned in my own country when "democracy" was established.
i don't really believe in democracy, especially in a country wheren the electorate consists of a majority of cretins who do not necessarily have the ability to make an educated choice, and in this respect i kinda lean toward the side of the "thai elite" whose work ethic, and the taxes they pay and the resentment they must feel about their tax money being wasted on the lazy brown people is somewhat justified in my opinion.
    BUT:
if you are gonna crucify somebody, if you want to dislodge him by pulling a coup, then at least have the balls to be honest about it, instead of coming up with lame excuses and bullshit, and changing the constitution to save your own arse.
if what i posted about the sale of ais is bullshit, then at least justify your stance by posting some facts to prove i was talking shit.
the coup leaders would have LOVED to have been able to prove that the ais sale was a corrupt move on thaksin's part, BUT THEY NEVER MANAGED TO DO SO!
perhaps they should have asked YOU first, then they would have been able to produce the proof that would have had his own electorate throw him out, instead of having to pull a coup and then try to back it up with bullshit and lies and cover-ups after the fact.

that depends on whether your definitions of gangster and businessman merge at some point.
tax EVASION is illegal in any country.
tax AVOIDANCE is legal, and it is the duty of any businessman to ensure that his company does not pay unnecessary tax.

    i do not pay tax.
i get away with it because i am good at it, and i do not see the need to support anybody who has neither the brain nor the inclination to support himself.
i guess that perhaps that makes me a gangster by your definition.

Most cambodians do not despise the government at all-they just accept it as cambodians always do.
They do despise the vietnamese and the thais however.
Cambodians would like nothing better than to give the thai a bloody nose, probably with the viets help ironically.

And that's your problem, you have no fucking clue and are speaking non-sense

as spending tax money on the "brown" people, I don't see this as a problem if it's done to serve them and not a particular leader

I don't mind most of the stuff you write Tis, but this is crap.

It does not take an astute business man to accept and pay bribes...the only way a copper in this country could get to be the wealthiest guy around.

But mainly, his stupidity and lack of common sense and decencey shone through by lacking to do and see one very simple thing.

He got what...around 74 billion baht for his company. Imagine now if he had turned around and as the current ruling PM....he made a song and dnace about paying 2 billion baht in taxes and then pushed it one step further and said ...'I will also match that 2 billion amount with a further 2 billion baht donation to support some worthy causes...education of the poor or whatever....and made it very public.

Imagine that....4 billion out of his 74 billion gone and left with only 70 billion.

But guess what, he would still be PM and he would be loved even more by the public than he was then.....a hero.

But no, the greedy fools true idiocy shone through and look at him now.

Fucking idiot he is, was and always will be.

let's not forget about the dodgy offshore company he used to transfer millions of shares,

and let's not forget the judicial coup of 2001, when he was nailed hiding millions through his chauffeur and maid, and they let him got away with it. He was very thankful to those judges eventually. Can't have it both ways.
