That is pretty f*cking amazing when one ponders. Is there a link to the paper's classifieds section?

I do find it concerning when people say the odds of catching it are low. Makes me wonder how the 10's of millions with it worldwide got it if it's that difficult to get.

"it has been estimated that the heterosexual HIV transmission rate in Thailand (where subtype E predominates) is fifty-fold higher than that observed in USA and Europe (where subtype B predominates)."

Lots more here, not sure how up to date it is, but type E is easier to get via heterosexual intercourse.

Not just prostitutes. Thai men, in general, do not like using a rubber.
This is very true. Heard many Thai guys talk about this....many BGs who have boyfriends, who also shag around, are quite a risky proposition for bareback.

Please stop. We all prefer the natural feel, but I've already know of one friend who got HIV from bare backing a freelancer from Nana hotel carpark area. Don't want it to happen to you as well. It's better to wrap it up.

Reminds me that Stickman posted on his webpage a few months back that there was a girl in Nana, who frequently bare backed customers and knew she was HIV+. He declined to name the bar she worked in...

I think the UN estimates/guesstimates that around 40 million are hiv positive worldwide, mostly Africa, India, Russia and China. I'm sure that's a conservitive figure, for sure, but when you read stuff from the OP story and some of the other links/facts etc presented then I'm amazed it's not 10 times that number considering the recklessness of so many when it comes to sex, especially after becoming intoxicated with something. I suppose we can only guess at the numbers of people walking around that are positive and don't know.

But the odds of being infected change dramatically if like me you only ever take bar girls, and from areas like Pattaya or Lamai where the infection amongst Bar girls are much higher, maybe as high as 30% now.
Condom is the only sane way to go

I understand your view, on the other hand the girl concerned is intentionally bare baking customers, which to me is some sort of pre-meditated attempted murder. Albeit a long, slow, painful drawn out one...

How do you know it wasn't a Thai? Plenty of Thai hookers overseas; plenty of Thai blokes going overseas on business having a bit while there.

Actually type 'E' is found mostly in Asia. It is very much a local strain. Other strains of the disease are found elsewhere.

Really? You sure about that? No Thai ever travelled overseas and engaged in sex is it?

Of course I am not sure about that . . . just looking at percentages or probabilities. There are far more foreigners coming to Thailand boning locals than there are Thais overseas being boned . . . as it were.

It's strange it's so hard to find information on tranmissability... wikipedia says it's 0.04% per incident for female to male, but "can be 10 times higher in 3rd world countries". Wiki also says condoms reduce the chance of transmission "by 85%".

And in this thread the number "50 times higher for strain E" was tossed around.

I found another interesting thread on the topic which came to the conclusion that basically, statistics don't count for much. There are going to be some who have a very infectious viral load and if you happen to hit one of those your chances of contracting are way higher.

As for "local" diseases, there are no local diseases anymore. All diseases are global.

As is I'm sure in most countries. Knowingly giving a deadly disease to someone is surely murder.

I know a few people with HIV and most did not catch it directly, usually it was their husbands who were playing away and then...what do you know...your fecked...It's a very sad illness and a nasty way to die...generally slow and painful.

As for your comments about it being an uneducated farang...what the hell does it matter educated or not???? many people uneducated or not contract HIV one way or another..

"It's not a local disease and the farangs brought it here" WTF!!!! AM23 is a moron.....bet a millon % also a Thai!!! Both seem to go hand in hand...there you go we can all make stupid comments

Sympathy for anyone with any deadly disease is the human thing to be thinking, not callous and ridiculous judgements...Ah your mum's got cancer..serves her right...what kind of mentality is that????

Anyway you get cancer, your pretty much dead...You get HIV you can live for many years.....death is death and dead is dead...whichever way you look at it....It all brings misery and sorrow to those left behind.
