Have you ever ridden a large motorbike?
Have to agree with Klongmaster here. I have owned a big bike ( 750 honda ) and I have sat on one of these tiddlers. Over a mile, the big bikes ( and I mean the racer types ) should win comfortably. But over a 500 yard sprint the adverage big bike would not be able to get away fast enough to catch these lightweights.
And don't make the mistake of thinking these small machines are production bikes with thin tyres, a flat seat and no air filter. No sir. The engines have been heavily worked over and can produce a hell of a lot of power ( for a total sacrifice of longevity )
As for anything over a kilometre.....pretty useless....might even blow up but thats not what the really hot ones are for. The Police went so far as having a crackdown on mechanics in backyard workshops who were producing these death traps but this is Thailand and that lasted all of a couple of days.
I daresay that there are big bikes that could compete but having seen pictures of Marmites yellow Honda.....sorry that ain't one of 'em.

I helped the BIL put together a 150 dash drag bike, engine built and balanced in Bangkok. The thing was extremly fast for a little scooter even with me on it, and yes they would beat MtD bike easly up to 140 -160 kl/m h.
But saying that they would have trouble against any 600 up modern day sports bike. Sure they might get you on the launch but once the sports bike hit 2nd I think it would be all over.
Rode a LS 125 that really suprised me with it speed off the start but in a rolling road race over 60 klm/h none of these bikes will hang with a sports bike.

Hell my pickup would beat MtD bike

^ Yes, they can be built to go very fast, but, most of the street racer kids are riding bikes with few, if any, serious mods. Pretty much any bike over 400cc could beat the majority of them.

Fair point. In fact, of all those hundreds of bikes shown in the pics, most have gone just to be part of the scene and to watch a few loonies risk life and limb.

I remember going home late from work at AUA one night ( long ago ) along Rama 4 on my humble 125 Honda Wing when suddenly screaming past me came two Thai nutters on two strokes, lying flat on the seat with their legs stretched out straight behind the bike and their heads on the tanks. No crash helmets naturaly.
Life is cheap until you lose it.

I came across something like this when I was in Thailand back in 98. To see such a total and utter disrespect for the law was refreshing. In most countries, the people are generally conditioned to not even think about doing something like this.

This is another way the Royal thai police deal with the issue:

In a far less publicised case, that of 17 year old Pharadon Manit from Phuket, the victim's relatives are still waiting for retribution. The boy's father, Siam, says that members of the metropolitan police had hidden alongside the highway to view a motorcycle gang race. He claims that they were drinking, and opened fire on Pharadon as he and his girlfriend - not members of the biker gang - drove by, shooting him in the hip and cervix. According to Siam, rescue workers arrived at the scene but the police were initially unwilling to let them take Pharadon to the hospital. He died shortly afterwards.

The next day, Siam and roughly 100 irate villagers set up a blockade on a major bypass road, halting traffic for four hours, until the Superintendent of Phuket City Police Station came to negotiate with them. He assured them that the suspect would not be allowed to leave the province and would be suspended from duty while the investigation was underway, but they refused to leave until he agreed to a list of additional demands, including that the officer who shot Worawut be dismissed from the police force and pay compensation to Pharadon's family.

That was in April 2007. Following the incident, the officer responsible for Pharadon's death was transferred to Krabi, not dismissed as promised, and in June the same year, he was promoted from Sergeant to Sergeant Major. No trial date has as yet been assigned to the case, and no compensation has been paid to the victim's family.

So, your VFR400 which has the 400cc Honda V4 would be quicker than my VF750S which has the 750 version?

    How does that work?

It is possible, it is a much lighter bike. You would have to take into account the weight of the riders as well though

No I say this from experence of riding worked 2 stroke here and from riding both yours and a many 400 motorcycles, Both of you will get your ass kicked off the start and up to 100 to 140 klm/h against any tuned Dash or RS
For a start your bikes weight is atleast double or more of that of the the little 2 stroke also you probably are twice the weight of a Thai,
Then you have the way the bike is geared as well the way a tuned 2 stroke hits full power pretty well instanly and flicks through the gears.
Dont even try it as you will be left looking like a fool

MTD dont try and make your bike some thing its not, about the only bike your going to drag off are 400 choppers and honda waves

As I've already said, power-to-weight ratio in the main although there are also other factors.

Further, both may be Honda V4's but the actual engine size isn't the only dissimilar point, it's not a like-for-like comparison. For one example - whilst I've no idea of the actual figures - it's almost a guarantee that the 400 would have a much higher rev limit.
