    Tacos and Salsa

    Mexican food made by Mexicans.
Reasonably accurate description, I tried this place tonight.

The food is quite good. It is real Mexican fare and tasty.
Though the place suffers from the usual Thai style fuck-ups.
I arrived close to 18:00 for eating.
Was the only customer. i ordered an appetizer of guacamole and a main dish of beef Alhambra. Beer selection was limited to Heineken.
They presented a nice plate of salsa's right away, which I had to look at without any chips to dip. So I waited.
Finally the guacamole arrives with some chips. It's pretty damn good, as are the different salsa's.
In typical Thai fukwit style the main course arrives within seconds of the appetizer's arrival.
As all this is going on I'm watching a lovely Buffet being laid out.

It's not on the menu so I assume "private party". Several groups of folks arrive an dig in to the buffet. This fine buffet seems part of the regular fare.

I inquire to the nature of this lovely buffet and indeed it's part of the regular Saturday and Sunday repertoire. Unfortunately it's not listed on the menu and nor did the outwardly gay staff feel the need to inform me of this option.
They let me order a la carte.
Anyway the food was good and when I mentioned the menu weirdness they told me to help myself to the buffet, which I did. And it was pretty good too.

I did manage to let the "jeffe" know about not serving the the appetizer at the same time as the main course. He now knows better to serve food in the brainless THAI FUKWIT STYLE.
i'd ct them slack if they were Thai, but they're not.

Anyway the food really was pretty damn good.
    I'll go again.
The buffet is a Saturday and Sunday special.

Will try it next time in Bangers. Between the corner Soi 22 and the Dubliner?

    Whats it called?

There's a new one opening soon on soi 14. Beautiful old 2 story wooden house set back on a pleasant soi. Looking forward to it.

I believe they do lunch, they also seems to have a breakfast menu. I love a good huevos rancherros. Not sure when they open. The Jeffe did mention that Mondays they only serve breakfast and are close the rest of the day.

I'll bet these guys can do it.
It should be doable as they have the big plantains here (platanos machos) which is an important ingredient.
As I remember it it takes a whole day to cook up a good mole.
Good mole is hard to find in Mexico.

I had a Mexican girlfriend years ago that introduced me to the wonders of mole. Yes, it does take all day to make but the stuff in a jar is OK. When I go back to the US it's one of the things on my list.

My kids love the Mexican buffet at bourbon street, but tuesday evening is bad timing for going.

They have the buffet on Sunday, lunchtime and evening?

    They'd love it.

Cheers Mr Earl, I shall pass your comments on to the owner, Horhay. I'm pleased you enjoyed the food anyway.

PS, are you sure there was no Corona?

    I went in yesterday afternoon.

Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Tables are a bit small for 4 people with some making up combos which adds up the plates and the food was a bit fast in coming between starter and main course.

The buffet is not on Sunday.

    Will definately return.

I sure didn't see any in the downstairs fridge. And I asked pointing to the fridge.
Suggest he keep Leo on ice, it's better than Corona anyhow.
Ask him if he can make mole and add it to the buffet.

I might have been a bit hard with my observations regarding the waiter staff but they sure came across as idiots to me. Usually gay waiters crackle with efficiency.
In hindsight maybe they were new and in training.

Maybe my gaydar doesn't work but I didn't think any of the 3 serving staff (2 Thai one presumably Mexican) were obviously gay.

    We had the following

    Starters

    Small Nachos
    Cheese Quesedillas

    Mains

Wife - Not sure, but one of the fixed dinners, bottom of the list. (it was listed as being good for a hangover which amused my wife despite not having a hangover)

    Me - Chicken Enchilladas

Kids both went for combo, ordering single items

Big Kid - 2 Beef Tosquitos (sp?), one Chicken Enchillada

Little Kid - 1 Chicken Enchillada, 1 Beef Burrito.

They also had a side of rice and a side of beans to share.

    Drinks

    2 Heinekens
    2 Frozen Margaritas
    1 Water melon Shake
    1 Strawberry Shake
    1 Bottle of Water

    Total Bill 1475B

Don't know about any of the Thai staff, but Horhay the Mexican is certainly not gay.

Horhay was wearing a Japanese National Football Shirt.

Tell him a rugby shirt would be better confirmation of his status.....555555

He did offer to 'knock us up some buffet' but no need, the a la carte manu was good.

He was on another table with a group of friends having sunday arvo beers, one of the guys (the only non Spanish speaker) looked familiar to me.

No more buffets. Sat night all you can eat off the menu. No excuse to complain.
