Thread: how to get a wp for freelance teaching

i am 24 years old, married to a thai, planning to be p.r. in thailand by getting 3 x 1 year marriage visa and than immigration visa. i dont have any skills in teaching and only got my h.s. diploma. i am planning to open up a small store, sell Buddha frames, and freelance teaching. the only problem is that when i went to obtain a work visa or a work permit, they told me they cant give one for freelance. i need to be working in a school. they told me i am not aloud to teach from home or at peoples homes. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? HOW CAN I GET A WORK PERMIT FOR FREELANCE TEACHING? i am worried about surviving in thailand if i cant teach as extra income apart from selling cigarettes, beer, pop, coffee, and Buddha frames.

does anybody have any advice on what my options are? i am living just outside Bangkok and i did try to get a job at some schools (but you need a B.A. or some kind of training). should i just teach at home without a wp? (i kinda want to do everything liegal because my wife is 7 months pregnant and i dont really have extra money to pay any fines).

i would like to add, if it will help, my finace spot in this. i came to thailand with 760,000 baht. 400,000 baht is in a 3 year fixed account (i cant touch) for my 3 x 1 year marrige visa. i have 260,000 baht left for:

-30,000 baht for small wedding
-50,000 baht for Buddha frames
-60,000 baht for show casing Buddha frames
-32,000 baht for starting small store (cigarettes, beer, pop, coffee, ect.)
-30,000 baht for hospital fee (when my wife has the child)
-? baht for unexpected spending

as you can see i am broke if the store does not have a good income for me and my family. i need to find a way to freelance teaching for extra income.

get a fake deeploma on Khaosan. I hear they can get you transcripts as well.

get a fake deeploma on Khaosan. I hear they can get you transcripts as well.

apparently the more expensive ones, have fake websites to suppost said university, and include telephone numbers that 'staff' answer adn confirm details to employers making calls

thanks. so how would someone find a fake diploma on khaosan road? i cant just walk up to people..can i? where is my best bet for starters?

A friend of mine that owns a guest house in Patters, almost got fined 50.000,- baht for pouring himself a cup of coffee.

i really dont know what you guys mean by "troll"...i am guessing, since a troll lives under the brigde, you guys are thinking where will i live with very little money. my wifes dad gave us his house (he is moving to retire as a monk) so that we can start a small business there. so i dont need to pay rent or build. electricity is 800 baht and water is about 100 baht and i only eat noodles which cost me about 50 baht every 3 days (not very fussy) and my wife, i dont really pay attention to how much she spends, but i know its not lots. so i can live very cheap here in thailand. last time i was here, for 5 months, i was spending 14,000 baht per months for me and my wife. and that was eating out every meal, paying electricity, water, sat.t.v., ect........i think with a child on the way i need to make around 15,000-20,000 baht per month to live good. the store and Buddha frames should bring in something....and teaching should bring in the rest.

Tell your wife to have the baby at a local hospital and make sure she has a natural birth and not a C-section, the total will be less than 5000 baht!! Just saved you 25,000 baht....

that is pretty much it. i lived here before for 5 months. my wife and i live in, i dont know what to call it, a village or country or the slums....we have no shower, our neighbors have no kitchen, they cook outside with coal, they bath in the river, do their laundry in the river, they have a dirt floor and no walls on their house. i am living very poor......BUT I LOVE EVERY MINUTE HERE. I CAN SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE IN THIS CONDITION. THEY CAN TEACH ME HOW TO LIVE BY PENNIES A DAYS. I DONT NEED BIG HOUSES AND NICE CARS. WE CANT TAKE THAT WITH US WHEN WE DIE. I AM HAPPY WITH MY OWN HEART AND THE GOOD PEOPLE AROUND ME. I WILL DO FINE.

Look there. It might happen that you'll find a job in the offshore business there and therefore make a decent living in Thailand.

I strongly suggest you consider going back home and getting some sort of qualification, when you have that – and preferably some work experience – you can return to Thailand and look for proper employment.

With your current bare-bones lifestyle, family commitments and negligible income you are certain to have major problems in the not too distant future; you have no chance of building up a cash reserve for emergencies like illness for example – and babies get a lot of illness – as undoubtedly will you particularly living in the conditions you describe. I would also add that you have zero chance of obtaining Permanent Residence with the type of employment and income you envisage.

You may think you have nowhere to fall further than you are now but at 24 you have options that will swiftly disappear the older you get. At age 35 you will have a 10 year old child to take care of – if not more younger children too – and still be living in near slum conditions earning and living day to day.

It is also a very BAD idea to consider using a fake Khao San "Degree" to obtain employment; that is Fraud and the validity of the Degree could be checked by the authorities at any time - you could end up being deported and blacklisted, never to see your wife and child again.

Thailand is a wonderful place if you have money – I would hate to live here in your situation.

I would suggest that the first thing you do if you want to freelance teach is learn proper English. Fake diplomas will get you in trouble at a real school. Also, you need a permit for your planned store. There are requirements on employees, salaries and such for this also. You can not get a work permit for freelance teaching.
