South Pattaya - Loan shark shot dead

LOAN SHARK GUNNED DOWN IN SOUTH PATTAYA

In the early hours of the 22nd October 2009 a Thai man was brutally killed in an execution style shooting at the entrance to the Hollywood Plaza Project in South Pattaya. Pol.Lt.Col. Saneh Yotroongreung was notified at 3.20 am and despatched a team to the crime scene situated behind the Wat Chaimongkol market, south Pattaya, Moo. 10.

Among the crowd of onlookers police found the body of Mr. Grairerk Kamrim or Aoun [34], residing at 236 Moo. 10 Nongprue, in the seat of his motorbike which had fallen against a road-side food stall, which was now in total disarray from the shooting. The victim still held a 100-baht bank note in his hand. He had been shot twice by a 9mm pistol – one to his right temple, and the other to the back of his head. Police also found a bullet case on the ground, 2 bullet holes on the wall and 2 on a kitchen pot.

An eye witness said that two men on a motorbike [a blue-silver, Honda wave 100, reg. no. Por-6226, province unknown], had been waiting for the victim close to a food stall. When Mr. Grairerk arrived to order some food, the man on the back seat pulled a gun and fired 3 shots. Mr Grairerk fell against the stall, and then the shooter walked towards him and pointed the gun at the victim’s forehead and fired the last shot and rushed back to his motorbike. The two men then sped away.

Mr. Somchai Tantaton, [40], the food stall owner told the police that Mr. Grairerk lived 500 metres away and was a very popular person in the area. People called him “Aoun behind the market”. On that night he stopped by to order some food. While he was giving Mr. Grairerk the bag of food and was just about to take the money, a motor bike arrived with two men on it and the one on the back seat pulled out a gun and shot Mr. Grairerk until he fell down.

The victim’s relatives told police he had a restaurant behind the market but he and his family also ran a loan shark business. He also had several loan shark business partners.

Another reliable source said Mr. Grairerk had a conflict with Mr. Nuay [last name unknown] who was in the same business and they were due to have an appointment the following day.

At this stage police presume Mr. Grairerk was murdered because of his shady business interests or due to debts or gambling.

However his relatives and associates will be questioned further and his body would be sent for autopsy. Police hope to bring the killer(s) to justice soon.

Oh. A good news story for a change.
A dead loan shark is a good loan shark. Should be more of it.

But with the Thai peasant ethical standards of holding corrupt criminals in high regard simply because of their wealth and power, I doubt it will catch on.

Pattaya, October 22 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Just before 4am on Thursday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sanae from Pattaya Police Station was called to the front of the Borbow Supermarket behind the Hollywood Plaza in Soi 17, South Pattaya to investigate an apparent fatal shooting. At the scene was the body of Khun Grailert aged 34. He had been shot 4 times, including a shot to his head. The victim is known to be a restaurant owner and was out drinking with friends and made his way to a local convenience store to buy some whisky and some noodle soup at the front of the store. As he waited for the food, two men, with their faces concealed, pulled up beside the victim and shot at him three times. He then fell off his bike onto a table in front of the food stall and the shooter then approached the victim and shot him in his head. Friends of the victim further revealed that he was currently in dispute with an illegal gambling cartel and on Friday he was due to meet the head of the group, known as Khun Noy to speak about an outstanding debt owed to him. Police are sure the shooting is related to this debt as friends and family of the victim were unable to provide any other possible motive behind the murder. Police are investigating.
