Thread: Why on earth do they act like this (Thai motocy riders) Rant

I think we all agree that there are a load of prats on the road, but the couple I saw tonight win first prize!

We are all familiar with the nutters on souped up little bikes that do a Valentino Rossi impression at every opportunity but , as they all have custom exhausts you can hear them coming and get out of the way .

I have just got in from a run to the shops and was cruising along - no hurry, on my Airblade. I
In front of me was a Honda Jazz also pootling along at about 40 km/hr.
The Jazz slowed down to about 25 km /hr. No real problem.
The reason it slowed was that there were a couple of bikes blocking the road riding about 6 ft apart with the drivers and pillion passengers having an animated conversation.
The Jazz driver gave a gentle 'beep' but there was no reaction .
A slightly longer 'beep' also had no reaction.
When a gap in the oncoming traffic appeared the Jazz accellerated and passed the bikes with a longer 'angry beep'.

The bikes immediatly chased the Jazz to the next traffic lights when the pillion passengers got off and started to kick shit out of the Jazz doors and then drove off through the red lights !!!!

WTF!!!

Is this normal in the LOS ??

Any one seen similar ??

Yes. I have seen this before. Sometimes the rider of one bike will put his foot on the footrest of the bike next to him so they can have a conversation and keep the same speed.

Only difference is, that I could get away with a long angry beep, as I live on Rama 2 (Samut Sakhon) where there are no traffic lights. If they chased me back to my village, they would not get past the guards.

What used to make me angry when I first moved there, was bikes driving down the wrong way on the one-way system. I used to dazzle them with my full-beam headlights, but I am so accustomed to seeing this, it doesn't bother me any more.

Taling of "Road Sense!" (You weren't I know ... but!) Did anyone attempt to drive down the Freeway from Rangsit to Bangkok this morning? We were in a bit of a hurry, but on approaching Don Muang Airport slip road we were met by a queue of traffic. Okay, so there was a free air show by the US Air Force, and we expected that kind of thing. However, a couple of miles further down, we started to see cars parked on either side of the FREEWAY, with doors open, people STANDING on the Freeway, with Umbrellas up! Within less than a few hundred yards there were TWO lanes of parked cars, on both sides, and get this, with motorcycle police guiding other traffic around them! The north-bound traffic queue stretched from the Don Mueng Airport, back down to the Rachadipisek slip-roads. Stopping on a Freeway? getting out of your vehicle on a Freeway? The mind does flips thinking about it!

one thing I"ve learned during my not so frequent driving in Thailand experiences is: If they can get the wheels stopped they can park it...

Was coming down into Silom at lunchtime a few weeks back. Traffic jam right up past lumphini park. Squeezed down throught 5km long jam, thought it must be two things - big accident, or another road is closed... Saw the police, saw the police cones... but no, a 7-11 was having a Scott toilet paper promotion along Silom and two of the three lanes were blocked off (by the police) to allow the crowd to stand and listen to the TV soap stars talking on the stage outside the 7.

Block off 2 out of 3 lanes, at the 2nd busiest time of the day, on one of the busiest roads in the country, for a convenience store toilet paper promotion.

Hilarious... they really are a simple, simple people.

It was also free from inside the airport.

I used to drive like the Thais in Britain in the early eighties. It's now illegal to drive like that, ie like a total [at][at][at][at]!

heavily tint all the windows of your car and drive exactly the same as them, i bounce atleast one scoot rider a week, fuck em.

Another little gem ( that could have turned nasty for me at least!)

Driving along at my usual 40 kph- car about 30 yards in front doing the same speed.
Motocy overtook me and was between me and the car - about 5 foot off the back bumper.
Car driver realised that he had just passed his turnoff and slammed the brakes on - stopped dead!
Motocy smashed into the back and the rider ended up on the car roof.
Car and bike all over the narrow road so I stopped - bad move!
Car driver and his passengers and the motocy rider started a shouting match whilst one of them phoned the BIB.

Within a minute or two BIB arrived but by this time the motocy rider was pointing at me and shouting.
Car driver ( who spoke English) told me that the rider had said that I had not allowed him any room when he passed me and it was my fault !!!
Motocy rider started spouting off to the BIB and pointing at ME!

Bloody hell I was 25 yards behind him when he hit the Car even though I was now only 6 feet away.

At this moment two absolute angels appeared.

A couple of rather robust Thai ladies who had a drinks stall at the junction, wobbled into action - they had seen it all and proceeded to give a graphic demonstration to the BIB of what happened.
One of the BIB indicated that he wanted me to move my bike through the tangled mess and park it the other side so he could do his white paint bit.
I did that and was walking back fumbling for my licence and ID when the other caught my eye and made an unmistakeable 'F*ck off sign' a smile and a half salute !!

I did!!

Once again - referring to the OP - Why on earth do they act like this? ( the rider I mean)

Can they never admit a mistake or what ??

PS. I know knocking the BIB in this forum is akin to a sport but, in this instance there is at least one in Phuket who seems to be a sensible sort !

Never stop at an accident that has nothing to do with you. Never give the middle finger to other road users, shout all you like as long as they don't hear you.

I know , but in this case there was no way I could ride by with the blocked road.

I'd have turned my bike around pronto and fucked off back the way I'd come, double quick.

Done it quite a few times, there's no way I'm giving anybody here the opportunity to start pointing fingers at me by hanging around like the noble farang. Bollocks to that!

going down vipawadee-rangsit, in the outside lane, pulled over at a road block for not being on the left, didn't have my licence, had one 50 baht note in my wallet, asked plod if the gas station next to us has an atm and I'll take out the 'donation', he gets on the radio to say that there's a farang with no licence, taps me on the shoulder and waves me to go.

thay ain't all bad. (60/40 ime)

And saw a middle-aged lady scratch the whole left side of her new bmw 520 off a bus yesterday as it stopped and she didn't gauge how much she had to move around it it... made me chuckle.
