If you live in Thailand I would also be damn careful about what a Dr, says too, Thai can not afford to many things and so Dr.'s are not up on all things here either.
I am supposed to have periodic blood tests to see what my trace minerals are doing and the meds effect on my blood to within certain tolerances, I have had 2 ordered blood tests here in 9 years of treatment.
One here years ago and then a Dr. at Suan Dok in CM ordered one the first time I went in there.

I am pretty careful about what Dr. Andy says too. Dr. Bob too. I think they got their degrees on Khaosan Road.

The acid reflux medicine is an over the counter drug with no real side effects. With his symptoms, I would bet he has acid reflux.

OK we can bet on that, but I tend to agree with you (?)

but it is always better to have a medic check before dosing yourself

and those degrees in Khaosan are to difficult, at least for me
    I have reported your post

many causes of acid regurgitation and heartburn.

you need to get checked for the presence of a bacteria in your stomach, its called helicobacter pylorans and if present is simply treated with antibiotics, the test is simple. this bacteria can cause heartburn and bloating and there is a school of thought that implicates long standing infection with helicobacter as a cause of stomach cancer later in life.

long standing acid reflux, causing chronic esophageal lining damage over many years has also been implicated in causing cancer of the oesophagus

if you are over 40 then any indigestion/heartburn should be investigated before embarking on treating the symptoms blindly. a gastroscopy ( a simple procedure where they examine the stomach and esophagus with a camera ) should be done.

chronic heartburn due to a hiatus hernia is usually treated with , among others , omeprazole tablets, cutting down on alcohol, cigarettes and spicy food, not lying down with a full stomach etc. but there are many causes of heartburn, from stomach ulcers to stomach cancer and so you should be certain of the cause before just treating the symptoms, if you just treat the symptoms then the symptoms may disappear but cause will still remain.

go and see a gastro enterologist at a decent hospital and dont piss about with advice from barely qualified chemists, non specialist doctors or posters on internet forums who may not have the full facts.

If you go to a hospital with a problem, first you see a general doctor

he then refers you to a specialist, if required. It may not be, depending on the problem

I have the same problem. Its because I drink too much and eat too much spicy food. I get pills that here in NZ are called Losec from my doc. Look them up online. Hey, its better than having to stop drinking and eating spicy food!

I suppose I should have said for "more fun" as opposed to plain old regular "fun".

These will probably cure the problem:-

    Lansoprazole

This belongs to the group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors.
Lansoprazole is used to treat certain conditions caused by too much acid being produced in the stomach, These include gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), duodenal ulcers (ulcers of the upper part of the intestine), gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux or heartburn), acid-related dyspepsia (acid indigestion) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Lansoprazole can also be used to treat irritation and ulceration of the stomach caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Acid is produced naturally in the stomach to help digest food. Excessive amounts of acid can irritate the stomach lining, causing inflammation, ulcers and other conditions. lansoprazole works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, relieving pain and helping to repair the damage.
Lansoprazole is available in capsule, orodispersible (melt-in-the-mouth) tablet and powder form.
Brands available include Zoton and Zoton FasTab.
However, I'd advise you, as others have, to seek medical advice before you take any medicine.

if you go to a proper hospital, you just tell them at the desk that you want to see a gastro doc. so cutting out the middle man.

you can check out the docs and their qualifications online at the bangkok international hospitals.

if you live out in the sticks, then you have totake whatever doc. is available.

    Dear Meepho,

I had suffered with occasional acid reflux for years but had assumed it was stress from work. When I retired I thought it would disappear, but after a year of retirement I started developing the problem more seriously. I attended a natural health clinic and they told me I had GERD and should look into my diet. They told me to follow a fast of fruit and veg for 10 days to detox, and then to stick to a diet of brown rice, beans, veg and fruit - some fish. This is basically a macrobiotic diet.

Within the diet I also balanced out the pH by making my diet more alkaline.

It was drastic at the time but I have followed it for a couple of years now and feel an awful lot better. I would certainly recommend it but it requires determination.

    Hope you resolve your problem,

    All the Best,

    BillZ

thankyou for all the input it has been very informative, and i have plenty to try out,
i have indeed taken the overall advise and seen the doc, he has taken a blood sample and he will be able to break it down to a couple af causes, it will take a few days for the results to come back and i will let you know who has been the closest on their diagnosis.

in the mean time i will try a couple of changes to my diet, i like what billzant had to say and it makes sense and can not do any harm,

    once again thx

the blood test is to check for the bacteria [ and i hope it is ], if the test comes back negative for bacteria then the doc say's as you do, i will have to go for a gastrocopy.

in the mean time i have been given 56 omepazole capsules.

    are you a doctor?
