Thread: Piping a small stream

I have a small stream which runs along the edge of my boundry wall. I think it's supposed to be a flood stream but I haven't seen any water in it for the last year.
I don't want to fill it in, just in case we do have a flood.
I want to pipe it, then backfill over the pipe.
Maybe you guys can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I can get some cheap concrete pipes specially made for this purpose. They not like the dense conrete pipes used for sewers and they don't have a joint, they just butt up to each other.
I need them to be 70 or 80 cm Diameter and each about one meter long.
Has anybody any Idea of the price.

I'll only be back in Thailand in about three weeks time, but I wanted to get things organized before hand.

I had to lay some concrete pipes to get the rain water past our house.
They come in several sizes, sorry cannot remember the price of the size you want.
I used the small 9 inch ones [at] 200 baht for a 2 metre length

Just butt them up and "seal" with clay or mortar

They sound like the one's I need but I need much larger diameter.

Perhaps you are referring to the thin concrete sections used for septic and water tanks. They are used vertically, but, I suppose they would suffice for a cheap drain pipe laid on their side, if there are NO loads on the covering soil ie: cars, trucks, buffalo, elephants etc.

Be careful that this stream is not shown on the land title deed as if it is it is illegal to fill it in.

You would then have to apply to the local council, (and to be allowed to change its natural flow course) and to replace it with storm water pipes may be possible but has to be approved by the council civil engineers.

Available all over Thailand in varying sizes.

Take care here. Will depend on where you are located. Where I live no one would notice.

The stream is not on the Title deed and I also asked the local headman, he said no problem to pipe it.
The steam actualy runs along the south edge of my land. I have just had a new boundry wall built. But as you can see from the photos the stream trench is making it so that the wall footings and piles are exposed, also the top of the trench is about two meters wide which is also unsightly. If I pipe the stream and then backfill then I can put in some plants which will make the garden look much better.
I have no intention at present to have Buffalo's or Elephants, so the pipe strength isn't that important.

^ Yep pipe diameter is all important and to move all the stormwater onwards and away from your property.

Do yourself a favour and speak to your neghbour before directing the flow onto his/her land or, and as by law all storm water drains must be directed back to the common road.

Also and based upon your pics it looks to me that the construction guy just dug out that area and to put in the wall foundations.
