Got to agree with Chairman Mao. It is illegal, but the chances of being caught are extremely slim.

Personally even with my above post if I had nothing more to loose than just being deported from the Land Of Scumbags and a small fine the chance would be worth taking without a doubt.
Don't be stupid Bob.
Of course. Why wouldn't I?You do have a permit yourself don't you?
And btw. WPs allow you to work in a designated company. If a teacher is required to go on a field trip, the WP doesn't allow you to work outside of the school, it's illegal. If you visit a students exhibition/competition, the WP doesn't allow you to work outside of the school, it's illegal. The Thai culture course they want everybody to attend/pay for, well, that's study, you need a student visa to legally attend, if you have a WP, you cannot possibly legally attend it.
All the Business English Agencies, they require teachers to do in-house classes at the business location, no WP can cover that, completely illegal.
Have you bought a vehical in a partner's name Bob?
If so, I hope you have a WP for driving it when she's with you.
If you don't live in a property in your own name, I hope you you have a WP for chaging a light bulb, sweeping the floor, cooking for others. All illegal bob.

geeezussss!! I've been wiping my own ass all this time and I had no idea it was illegal??![]()
is whacking myself off also illegal?? damn! I'm in big trouble...
no one grass me, ok??
I wonder if Looper knows that??
BTW Mao I'm not taking a shot I know you're technically right regarding the lunacy of the working laws in Thailand nor do I believe that anyone else is disputing that, only the fact that the OP was asking if it was legal or not and giving him an accurate answer...
Yes, but let's also put 'illegal' into the correct perspective.
That's only fair.
It's prefered if you get some BiB supplied ho to do that for you.is whacking myself off also illegal??
Anyone living here for any length of time and accepting employment of any kind should know that it is illegal to work without a WP.

I noticed you posted a question yesterday about which country to visit to pick up a non-imm 'O' visa- have you received it? If so it may be a new record. Which country did you opt for? Thai consulate attitudes and requirements vary, apparently. You might consider getting yours at Hull next time, they have a reputation for being easy as a Nana parking lot slut during an economic downturn.
Sorry, just wondering if you are as much of a clueless "newbie" as some of our frogs-in-the-well around here seem to think. Provided the newbie isn't really dumb, I see both Bob's and Mao's replies as being potentially helpful and not all that much in conflict, despite the pissing contest.

killing people is also illegal, at least in Thailand, even with a WP
apparently they were not people, they were scum, so no problem
even if innocent scum

The short answer is it is illegal to work without a work permit. If it is a valid and upright job offer, they should give you a work permit or at least help you with the paperwork. Work permits are hardly ever given for part time jobs. They do not want to pay the fees. If you do have a work permit for a job, it is only valid for that job and does not cover working somewhere else. Having said this, many people work as freelance and part time teachers without work permits. It is illegal, but often done.
