At 52 do i go for the Honda CB or Steed

For some crazy reason, I am seriously considering buying a motorcycle here, something the sensible part of my brain has been telling me not to do since the first day I came to the Land of Smiles.

Putting aside reasoning and rational thoughts I have narrowed my crazy desire to two alternatives, either a touring bike or the laid back cruiser.

Due to my size, a Thai style step through motorcycle would be silly: I would look like an upside down iceberg gently making its way through the traffic.

The last bike I owned in the UK was in 1989, a Yamaha Geneses but at 52, I need something a bit less sporty and have looked at the Honda CB, Steed and Shadow.

Of the choppers the Steed appears a lighter machine and the 600cc would be a pleasant alternative to the more expensive Shadow with the 750cc. The CB also has its appeal and I am 50/50 split on the style to go for.

My budget is limited to no more than around the 120,000 ThB and any constructive advise would be appreciated

Think it depends on where it will be most ridden and if you will be carrying someone on the back a lot.

If you intend to use it most in Bangers then CB would be my choice. If mostly for up country use then I would opt for the steed.

Doubt if either will be very comfy for a passenger.

    KW.

I'v been riding off road bikes from the age of 10 but my i haven't been on a bike for many years until a few weeks ago in Kanjanaburi.

A mate who lives there and has several bikes and during my visit i enjoyed a good few hours on his Suzuki 650 exploring the countryside.

What I need is a bike that I can just jump on and go, explore, stop and see all the things I keep missing whilst driving

And thanks Norton but I dont worry about the pillion, this is something for me.

Not into the rack etc Baldrick just a clean look and something that will take me a 200KM out of BKK

^the CB you can do pretty much anything with it and ride comfortably and economically.
You can add a windshield and softbags easily or take them off for commuting around the city.
The riding position of cruisers get's old really fast if you have a mind to go long distance touring.

TEH Steed is pretty with it's fake, plastic harley Primary cover t looks like a boulevard cruiser that would be a pain in the ass to ride and insufferable on long-ish trips.

There are otehr bikes that the two mentioned but given a choice, as much as I like vee-twins, i'd recommend the CB. THe Steed looks like a wall-hanging.

Depending on the size of the iceburg, the steed might be the best.

I didn't go for the Steed or the Super 4 but bought a Honda Magna 750cc V4 in Kanjanaburi, riding it home this weekend.

I am old. but the Magna a has plenty of punch especially at high RPM's, it's comfortable and the handling is good. It is also a bit lower than the CB but not as bad as the shadow. I did some miles on all three plus a couple of Yamaha's 750XJ and a 400 Dragstar and felt that this bike was more stable and out accelerated all the others in mid range speeds
