    Candida/Yeast Overgrowth in Digestive Tract

A few days ago I had a conversation about problems with allergies I've been having over the past year or so with a fellow American at a local beer garden after he asked why I was only drinking pineapple juice. He suggested I take a look at a Candida overgrowth in my digestive tract which is too much yeast in place of benificial bacteria. I've been thinking I'm allergic to MSG, but I've been reading that Candida can cause sensitivity to MSG. I hit the net about this and it is something I want to get tested for since the doctors I've seen in the states just tell me I'm allergic and want me to take a pill for the rest of my life without actually trying to find the cause.

Anyone have suggestions about an allergist or doctor that can give me a test for this while I'm in Bangkok? Anyone have experience with Candida and medication? Thanks for your time.

    A link to Candida info:

    Candida and MSG sensitivity:

"...Here is another example of how Candida can induce a sensitivity. Many people with Candida overgrowth are sensitive to monosodium glutamate, or MSG. (MSG is a "flavor enhancer" added to many food products.) This sensitivity can be due to an inactivation of a B6 dependent enzyme called glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase. Hence, if someone is deficient in B6, they can become sensitive to MSG. People with the yeast syndrome are often very low in the active form of B6. This is because the toxins from yeast create a real and a functional deficiency of the active form of B6. Thus yeast overgrowth can cause a sensitivity to MSG."

I have a lack of enzymes and have to take Probotic Asidophilus, I cap a day and it puts in the bacteria that controls the yeast, or you can eat live culture yogurt and it will do the same thing, if you can find it here.
But I just buy my acidophylus online and store it in a cool place, which is my fridge, and only order once a year.
But I had a month in the hospital a couple years ago with candida in my throat, mouth and into my lungs, so now I take my pill every day as there is no way around it unless you make the bacteria, which you must not.
It is first noticed by a lactate intolerance for dairy products.

^^I don't know. I tend to be skeptical of things like this. Is an excess of yeast really a "leading contributor" to alcoholism and irritable bowel syndrome? I've never heard of anything causing alcoholism before this. And if you look at the list of complaints associated with overgrowth of yeast, it's pretty much everything under the goddamn sun. It reminds me a bit of the info available on the curative powers of apple cider vinegar, oil pulling (Oil Pulling, Wonderful Therapy, An Ancient Ayurvedic Method for Great Health), or other panaceas.

And it looks like apple cider vinegar may be useful in combating candida.

Apple Cider Vinegar, that wonderful old-timers home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy -- we're convinced! From the extensive feedback we've received over the past 8 years, the reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous. They include cures for allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. One reader reported that a shot of ACV saved him from going to the emergency room for heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar also breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has high blood pressure under control in two weeks!
Apple Cider Vinegar cures - the best NATURAL home remedy for many health issues.
All that being said, I wish you the best of luck. Let us know the results of whatever you do. Maybe try a Chinese medicine person or a homeopath in Bangkok, if you can find one?

Edit: just read BG's bit. Shit, I'm lactose-intolerant. This may be worth looking into a bit more.

What makes the lactate intolerance is the loss of the enzyme to break down the dual molicular parts of milk sugar, thats what acidophulis does, and that controls the yeast in your system also, at least according to my medic in the states, but when I came here I couldn't find any actice live culture yogurt so I kind of forgot about it until I ended up in the hospital with candida covering my mouth and throat and getting into my lungs.
But some other factors also contributed too, I had a partial made here and it didn't fit quite right and also I failed to rinse my mouth sometimes after I used an inhaler I use and so those things together all working and I think that had something to do with it too.
But I could find no acidophilus here so I order from Puritan Plus in the states.

I can give you the name of a good doctor in the states who specializes in yeast management and controlling it with diet... This doctor focus' on three specialties related to health & wellness, yeast management being one...

^Apple cider vinegar tastes terrible. My grandmother used to drink a bit every day in warm water and lived to be 84 while staying in pretty good health throughout her life. I'm a bit skeptical also about these things, but the doctors I've been to in the states really don't seem interested in finding a problem. They suggest people just become allergic to certain things over time. I can agree with that possibility, but also want to find out if there are others. At this point I'm willing to look at anything. This has really changed my life in a negative way and I want to get back to feeling normal again if possible. Up until about a year ago I went to the gym about five days a week and was very active. It is very hard to accept that I went from having lots of energy and feeling strong to the way I feel now over such a short time. Something isn't right.

The name of the doctor and contact info would be appreciated for when I get back to the states, but I'm not sure that is the problem just yet. Need to do some testing and wanted to do it here to cut cost while I'm here. Thanks.

Similar to apple cider vinegar is this stuff (I think). Kombucha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They sell it in bottles here in the States and elsewhere, I'm sure. I had half a bottle yesterday and it really made for an interesting afternoon.

^^ Here is a link to his website... I was referred to him by my family physician after complaining about similar symptoms that you are experiencing... He changed my life for the better...

There are few physicians who specialize in health & wellness treatment... Most doctors simply want to treat the symptoms and ignore the root cause... Dr. Hotze is an exception...

^Thanks for the link to the site.

    Another question:

In the states you usually see a general care doctor who then refers you to a specialist instead of going to a hospital for testing. My girl is suggesting I go to some hospital here in Bangkok because I want to get a Candida antigen blood test done for stomach trouble/msg allergy I've been having, but I'm not sure what to do. Going to the hospital in the states and seeing a doctor means going to the emergency room which is very expensive.

Is she right in suggesting a hospital or should I go to one of these clinics I see all over the city first?

I did the saliva test they suggested in a glass of water this morning and it looks like what they described so I want to go on with the testing.

^^ The hospitals here have an entire medical staff that is dedicated to walk in's and specialists apart and separate from the emergency dept. they have their own exam rooms and depts. but go early, usually there is a wicked queue.. I wouldn't go to any local clinics as my impression from the ones I've been to is that they aren't very sanitary nor professional for the most part..
Most even have dental from what I've seen it's all one stop and from what I've read it seems that the dental dept. or ENT is where you might want to begin..

She a little overweight too, thats why they call her "A Whopper with Cheese"

Plus her medical training leaves quite a bit to be desired, so I think that line of hers is all bullshit too.

I started eating 2-3 yoghurt little cups per day. The kind you buy at the grocery store.

Has anyone else tried to use probiotics?

Coincidentally, I've been out looking for un-iodized salt this morning in preparation for a first go at sauerkraut by lacto-fermintation. I've used the method before in Japan for pickles but never tried to make sauerkraut.

I make yogurt at home to eat sweetened with fruit and also to use as a low fat replacement for sour cream.

Don't know what the health benefits are unless increased farts are healthy.

On the Candida/ yeast issue, you can also have a skin rash from infections outside your body. Babies often get it but adults can get it in the groin and other moist places. As Thailand is so hot, you can sweat quite a lot. I had a rash in my groin area for quite a long time as well as troubling athlete's foot which just wouldn't go away. I tried lamisil which didn't seem to do anything much but one day I tried the other cheaper common stuff that women use I guess and it got rid of the stuff practically instantly. I was quite amazed by it as I thought that the lamisil would be better because it was well-known back home.

Anyways, if you have athlete's foot or a skin rash try this, it might just do the trick. It's a combo of betamethasone dipropionate + clotrimazole.
