^Sorry, hon, but I'm the only liberal in this conversation.
I'm pretty sure that when ol' John Stuart proposed allowing good arguments to drive out the bad as a primary virtue of the liberal freedom of speech, he wasn't thinking of old men in little girls' dresses chanting "knuckle-dragger, knuckle-dragger, knuckle-dragger" to drown out equally vacuous types droning "libbie".
I'm also sure that acting like a petulant ten year-old is not really an "alternative lifestyle"; it is, however, almost certainly pathetic.
Oh, and could you possibly find another label for your confusion and spite? "Liberal", to my mind, has a certain ring of intelligence and integrity about it. Wouldn't want to get any of that on your dress now would we?
Yes, it is a very "conservative" word. A "proper" word as the Brits would say.Originally Posted by mao say dung

Hey, even Helen is coming to task! (Watch the vid)
At the White House presser on Wednesday, several correspondents questioned the way the Oval Office selected questions from the public for today’s virtual town hall.
President Barack Obama answered pre-selected questions Wednesday afternoon about health care sent in from emails, Facebook and Twitter. CBS’ Chip Reid and columnist Helen Thomas thought this reflected a lack of transparency at the White House.

DId you see him in Russia? No fans packing the streets and Putin lecturing him for almost an hour on cold war stuff before spreading out with looks of disdain in his chair at the press interviews like he was forced to be nice with a two-year-old, Obama.

You noticed that too.spreading out with looks of disdain in his chair at the press interviews like he was forced to be nice with a two-year-old, Obama.
Obama didn't look particularly comfortable in such company either.
Way out of his league.

^ Funny that about body language. The Russians never suffer fools gladly. Putin is the current epitome of that stance.

Well, he did indulge in some tough talk for the domestic audience just before he left sending a message to Russia that they better just quit this cold war attitude or America would be very cross with them.
I am sure the Yanks lapped it up, but obviously the Russians didn't think it was very nice.
I think you'll find it was Putin who was treated like the two year old- Obama had breakfast with him at his villa, the rest of the time he spent talking to Medvedev.
Obama Puts Medvedev Ahead of Putin
Forget the nuke deal, forget the speech, forget even the Russians' lack of interest in Michelle: The real surprise of President Obama's trip to Moscow this week was that he spent most of his time talking to the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, and took only a couple of hours to pay a courtesy call on the Russian prime minister and former president, Vladimir Putin.
washingtonpost.com
By all accounts, Obama and Med had some productive discussions. On the substantive side, the US was allowed to fly over Russian air space on flights to Afghanistan, and agreement was reached on a reduction in nuclear warheads.
Obamas speech to the Economic school graduates was actually pretty good- although methinks designed to put Putins nose out of joint- unfortunately however it was not widely broadcast in Russia. Oh well.
I don't see how anyone can favourably compare the Neo-con/ Bush admin foreign policy now to Obamas, unless your version of US foreign policy consists of waving a schtick at the rest of the world. Obama is achieving much more with reasonable dialogue (and flowery speeches) than Bush ever did with his 'old white man' stick wavers like Bolton and Cheney. And, when it comes to war, Obama Is giving the Taliban some stick- unlike the half arsed efforts of the previous paper tigers.
He gets high marks from me on foreign policy. On domestic policy, it's wait and see how the Bailout fares, and how his Healthcare reform package eventuates.

^
Well if that is true it would be a big diplomatic mistake if Obama was actually there to achieve something, Putin is running Russia and Medvedev is just a puppet if there ever was one.
But maybe it was deliberate to show Putin that his old cold war style talk is not being appreciated in the US.
In any case to get anywhere with Putin I believe you have to be extremely tough and you have to stick it to Russia on points where you can hurt, otherwise this old KGB officer is going to try to muscle you, he only understand the old primitive ways.

Ahhh, but you could say the same about the Neo-Cons larv- and look how far they got with Putin/ Russia.
Georgia on my Mind
You might say Obama is proceeding from a low base.![]()

^ And USAF planes can fly over Russian airspace. Carnt have seen that happening with Bush admin diplomacy.

^ 555 Good slide off the topic there, SB.
Anyhoo, the Ruskies know where the US planes are now. (You think Putin does nice things just coz Obama wants to be friends?)

Body language says it all...
Has BO lost his mojo or what?
Russians — even the young, starry-eyed ones (!) — have seemed more intelligent than Americans lately…
“We don’t really understand why Obama is such a star,” said Kirill Zagorodnov, 25, one of the graduates. “It’s a question of trust, how he behaves, how he positions himself, that typical charisma, which in Russia is often parodied. Russians really are not accustomed to it. It is like he is trying to manipulate the public.”

You have unemployment hovering around 9.5% and yet to pick up, and a massive Bailout package, and a recession. Republicans must be scratching their head how Obamas numbers can be so high! He remains the most popular President of the previous four administrations at this stage, and under dire economic conditions.
The vast majority of the bailout money has yet to be spent, and of course there is always a lag before employment numbers start to turn around. One thing is for sure- a lot depends on the performance of the economy over the next twelve months. But even government economists were not suggesting an upturn in employment until the second half.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 30% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –8. The President’s Approval Index rating has fallen six points since release of a disappointing jobs report last week (see trends).
Thirty-nine percent (39%) now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy while 43% say he is doing a poor job. Those are by far his lowest ratings yet on the economy Premium Members can see crosstabs, trends, and Scott Rasmussen’s Daily Briefing.
There is a gender gap when it comes to perceptions of Obama’s performance. By a 46% to 27% margin, men Strongly Disapprove. Women are more evenly divided—33% Strongly Approve and 30% Strongly Disapprove.

^ Yep, more jobs lost and folks can't get jobs, small businesses (70% of US job makers) can't get loans and are gonna get hit by cap'n'trade, and the stimulus has done zip six months later.
