Riverbed death: man charged with murder

A 44-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death of a woman in Alice Springs last night.
Police say they received a call about 11pm alerting them to a body in the Todd River bed near Undoolya Road.
Detective Sergeant Leith Phillips says the 41-year-old woman was dead when police arrived at the scene.
He says police think violence was involved.
"The lady appears to have extensive injuries to her body.
"The nature of those injuries I can't confirm at this time as we're attempting to conduct an autopsy later on today.
"The results of that autopsy won't be known until tomorrow morning."
The man is expected to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court tomorrow.
