Thai Music Hits - Past and Present

Do you have any Thai songs you like? Post them here.

I'll be honest in that I don't understand the meanings to most of the Thai music I like. Some of the songs I have no idea what they sing about at all but who cares if it makes you feel good.

An oldie but quite popular at that time it came out...

'Somsi 1992' - by Ying Yong

A popular one by Bird, Sabai Sabai. I remember an older foreign woman who used to work her way from bar beer to bar beer in Pattaya requesting this song all the time. I used to like to request songs too and it seemed like whenever I went to Pattaya she would come come along and request this song.

A couple of good Loso songs...

    Som Sarn

    Red Bicycle

Horrible apart from Ying Yong, seen him dozens of times, last on may 5th. He often appears with Dao Myuree and Appaporn Nakonsawan as they are all mates. Strange thing is although he comes across as a friendly joker on stage, somewhat like Monsit Khomsoi, he is nothing like that off. With top line Diamond label these days.
Could post hundreds of things but just too lazy to upload them onto you tube which takes forever on this ISP how do you post whats already on there just post the url here?

This is a kids' song my daughter liked quite a bit a couple years ago...

    Carrot Song - Nong Mai

Another Song from a ways back. Kind of cheesy stuff but it's what I remember.

    ไม่อยากกลับบ้าน : เพ็ญพักตร์ ศิริกุล

Pumphuang Duangjan, the Luktung Queen singing Somtam. I guess the song was written by Princess Sirintorn if I am wrong about that please correct me. My wife got me into Pumphuang's stuff. I would guess most farmer's daughter's over 35 would like her stuff. There's some concernt to mark the anniversary of her death in Bangkok this Sunday if I remember right. Not sure where that is. Seem to have them all the time here.

    Joey Boy - Loy talay

This is the first Thai song that caught my attention when I arrived. It reminds me of the theme song to The Odd Couple. I guess its called something like 'The man with long hair in English'

    ไอ้หนุ่มผมยาว

Another one from back a bit - now a classic Thai rock song

    Suea Thanapol - 18 ฝน sip-paed fon

I'm sorry but for some strange medical reason Thai music and my ears, generally, just don't get on. All my fault, but there it is.

Get her the latest album it really is good and her best, great fun and several tracks recorded at her School in Nothaburi. Of course she looks a good deal older now at 13, carrot song was from 2004 I think.

OK I will try one and a very special singer. This song by Mangpor is an echo of a Thai style called Pleng Ho which has all but died out, sometimes called luktung cowboy it often included yodeling and dressing in western outfits. Called Sao luktung

Good move when she went to Grammy, but moe or less an end to morlam recording.

^I have Borak Si Dam on CD and the quality is fine. I've never heard anything about its having been banned. The one and only time I've been to the Isaan Tawan Daeng it was the opening 3 numbers!

Rachanee morlam is knocking on a bit now, 57 I think and older than Nok Noi, although she has recorded luktung as well as some latin numbers she is best known for her morlam recordings and did a lot to popularise it with TV appearances in the 80's.Her daughter Candy is a DJ on fm 95. I love her outfits and she is without doubt the best female morlam dancer. She lived in the USA for a time, has a biography book out.

Maybe the best ever. Died far too young. Saw her last concert in Lumpini Park many years ago. Anyone know who she is?
