Pumps break and cost money to run.
Wells can go bad.
Rain water's good and free.

Or the cat or rat that fell in the well starts to really rot.

mains water comes from a blue pipe slightly underground in the
other side of the road
normally it is against the law to pump mains water directly into your house
you should have a holding tank and pump from that
now you know!

thanks drandy

I have a 1000L plastic water tank (I should say HAD a water tank) It sits on a metal frame on top of four 3m concrete posts.
The metal frame rotted through and dropped to the ground together with the plactic water tank (what a mess!).
Anyway! I have had a quote for supply and fit a new tank for 15000k Baht.
Am I being ripped off? it seems a bit steep to me.
I'm not in Thailand at present, so I'm negotiating the price by phone and photos.
What type of new tank, and size? Raised how high?

They quoted for a 1200L stainless steel tank + a new metal frame and fitting on top of the original conctete post tower which is about 3m to 4m high.
Ive have a water tank that is filled from the mains and then is pumped into the house, damn handy to have for those times one forgets to pay the water bill and the cunts come and take the meter away.........
I don't really think that is to bad a price if they put the piping and float valve in and have it in running shape, I gave 8000 for a 700L plastic tank and valve, it is a good tank with algae proof and UV proof.

Thanks Blackgang. They told me 12000k baht for the tank and 3k baht for making a new platform frame and fitting including valve and new pipe were necessary.
So it looks like a good price.
I would go for it myself. I gave 13000 for the tank and pump and had to hire a couple of guys to put em in and do the work.
I have a 1,100 Ltr stainless steel tank and it is handy when the power cuts off and we can't use the pumps, gives me enough water for about 2 days.
Also most of the time it warms up nicely during the day so i almost never use the water heater. I got one of those liquid level sensors for about 150 Baht cos the ball valve was causing the pump to switch on and off all the time.
That price sounds a bit steep, but not unreasonable. Just make sure they do a good job.
