It is so easy to get food poisoning on an Island. I had food poisoning when on Koh Tao, Thailand. It hit me so fast, I was on antibiotics, and near the bathroom for a good few days.
FOUR people have died , a man last month and now these two women .
And a dead man found floating May 1 or 2nd .

Phuket Gazette - online English newspaper for Phuket, Thailand, with daily news, classified ads, yellow pages, business listings, upcoming events, event calendar, phuket events

<<<<<Dead foreigner found floating off Phi Phi Islands

PHUKET: Police on Koh Phi Phi are trying to identify the remains of a foreign man whose body was found floating about 3 nautical miles off the Phi Phi Islands in Krabi.

The body was recovered by workers from the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization’s Tourist Rescue Center, which operates out of Chalong Pier in Phuket.

The exact time of the body's recovery was not given in the police report, made at 10am today.

The man was found wearing only green trousers. His left arm bore a tattoo with the words “mother heart”.

Koh Phi Phi subdistrict police are now questioning people on the island and checking missing persons reports from Krabi and surrounding provinces, including Phuket, to try to identify the man.

We also know that a Norwegian (46) died in Phi Phi Islands for about a month ago. He was on honeymoon when he was suddenly ill. Also he may have been poisoned.....

    Possible causes , quick Google search;

-Food spoilage usually has diarrhea too.

-Pufferfish and related toxins fit the symptoms

-Air conditioners are not listed as probable sources of Carbon Monoxide.

-Pesticide poisoning MAY cause blue skin as does cyanide, but cyanide is very quick
Mild poisoning or early symptoms of acute pesticide poisoning headache, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, restlessness, nervousness, perspiration, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, loss of weight, thirst, moodiness, soreness in joints, skin irritation, eye irritation, irritation of the nose and throat.

-Radiation poisoning low level usually brings head ache, diarrhea and vomiting . Higher exposures one or all three symptoms with hair loss, rapid death.

Here's an interesting one, maybe BG/Medusa is familiar with it?

    Yellow
    phosphorus ;

Breath has garlic odor; feces may glow and smoke
    from phosphorus fumes; vomiting and diarrhea;
burning pain in hroat, stomach and intestines

Well, no, or a lot of us would be dead. If the intake for an aircon unit is close to a source of exhaust, like a pump or other type of motor, that exhaust will wind up in the room the aircon is cooling.

Let me give an example from my own experience- four other divers and myself were suiting up for a dive near Puerto Galera, having reached the site. The first guy to check his air supply noticed a slightly foul taste/odor to the air in his tank. We abandoned the dive and, arriving back at the shop, found that the workers fixing up the path outside the shop had set up a small motor (to run a mixer) on the other side of the wall from the air compressor, contaminating the air pumped into our tanks. Careless, but it happens.

Doesn't apply if the aircon is a conventional split, which draws its air from within the room.

Right, it is hard to say without looking at it. The factor that has me curious is that the boyfriend seems to suspect that the couple's varying degrees of illness are related to time spent in the room. That suggests fumes to me, of a kind not terribly noticeable, like odorless/tasteless CO.

URGENT: Phi Phi 'Poisoning' Kills Two Tourists

[ No source for "poisoning " statement in headline. How does Phuket Wan know this ? The report states a companion thought the air in the room was involved. ]

THE CAUSE of poisoning [ not confirmed ] that killed two tourists on Phi Phi at the weekend is being investigated, the Governor of Krabi, Siwa Sirisaowalak said today.

The tourists, both young women, were from the US and Norway. They had been staying at the same local guesthouse.

A blog posted online by a companion who was travelling with one of the victims suggests that the air conditioning may have been the cause.

Thailand's top forensic scientist, Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand, is expected to be involved in autopsies to determine what killed the women.

A Bangkok specialist epidemiologist is already on Phil Phi, seeking to find the reason behind the mysterious fatalities.

A spokeswoman at Vachira Hospital on Phuket confirmed the bodies of a two women had been received from Phi Phi and sent on to Bangkok for forensic tests.

A third tourist, also a woman, was treated at Phi Phi Hospital and has been discharged.

Phuketwan has had conflicting reports about the precise circumstances of the deaths.

Police Lieutenant Pantanan Sangtong, who investigated the deaths, said the Norwegian woman died around 8am on Sunday at Phi Phi Hospital.

She had been staying with her boyfriend at a local guesthouse, the officer said.

On Monday, two Americans from the same guesthouse fell sick. One, a woman aged 26, died, Lieutenant Pantanan said.

The other American, also a woman, survived and had since been discharged from hospital.

The Norwegian embassy in Bangkok confirmed that a Norwegian citizen had died.

The 23-year-old woman will have an autopsy performed to determine the precise cause of her death, along with the other woman victim.

It is understood all three victims because ill suddenly on Phi Phi at the weekend. They were not travelling together.

Dr Buncha Khakong, of the Public Health Department in Krabi, told Phuketwan that the first woman victim arrived at the hospital at 7.20am on Sunday.

She was vomiting, feeling weak and had low blood pressure, he said. By 8am, she was dead.

She told nurses that she had been vomiting since 7pm the previous evening, Dr Buncha said. The patient thought at first that her illness might be a hangover from a drinking session.

Dr Buncha said a rudimentary autopsy performed at Phi Phi Hospital showed no obvious cause of death.

The second woman presented at the hospital at 9.30pm on Sunday, having fallen ill at 9.30am. She was dead by 11pm, he said.

No autopsy was done on Phi Phi on the second woman. Both bodies were sent to Phuket together, he said.

A spokeswoman for Sea Angel ferries, one of several companies that ply between Phuket and Phi Phi, said today that tourist arrival and departure numbers were normal.

Scandasia.com reported that according to the Foreign Ministry in Oslo, the Thai police has started an investigation into the cause of the death of the Norwegian woman.

Scandasia named the dead American woman as Jill St. Onge from Seattle, who was staying at the same guest house as the Norwegian woman, along with her boyfriend.

A spokeswoman at the American Embassy in Bangkok said this afternoon she could supply no information.

Phi Phi, part of Krabi province, is about an hour and 45 minutes by ferry from Thailand's main holiday island, Phuket.

It consists of two main islands and has recovered its popularity with backpackers since about 850 people died there during the 2004 tsunami. >>><<<

No mention of man floating in water May 1st, or Norwegian man reported dead, also in Phi Phi last month in Norwegian press

Got to be the guesthouse rebottling the water badly, only thing they would likely have in common in what they consumed.

The guy who went out probably only had a couple of swigs and left his bottle there, came back and had some more, the woman etc inside would be taking swigs every 10 20 minutes.

and from Wiki on Visine pranks ...

Visine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A common urban legend is that a few drops of Visine in an unsuspecting victim's drink will cause a harmless bout of diarrhea. This will not produce diarrhea, but oral administration of Visine can induce dangerous side effects related to Visine's ingredient tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride such as:
    • Blurred vision
    • Difficulty in breathing or even a complete halt in breathing
Pfizer recommends that anyone ingesting Visine get medical attention or contact a poison control center immediately. [2]

Cyanide Found in Stomache of Norwegian Woman

    THAILAND - - Fant cyanid i magen - Nettavisen
From Norwegian press, may have errors in translation.

    >>>>>>

Police on the Phi Phi Islands said that the preliminary autopsy report shows the discovery of cyanide in the deceased Julie Michelle Bergheim

PHI PHI / OSLO (Manager): The local police on the Phi Phi Islands to the Manager says that cyanide was found in the deceased Julie Michelle Bergheim (22) during the initial investigation of the girl in Phuket.

    - To our great surprise, it was found cyanide in her stomach. Surprise was so great that she was sent to a new autopsy in Bangkok, said Police Chief Nopadon Klom Thong on Phi Phi Islands to the Manager.

    - We have no reason to believe that there has been any criminal, but can not exclude anyone, Thong said the Manager.

Do not conclude whether the cause of death even if it is to be found cyanide in the survey of Bergheim,

this does not mean that the police in any way have concluded with some cause of death.

The woman is now an autopsy by forensics in Bangkok. Norwegian authorities on Wednesday afternoon had not received a preliminary autopsy report.

Nettavisen visited Wednesday the guest house where 22-year-old Bergheim lived with her 20-year-old Norwegian girlfriend. In the room was wall to wall "was the American woman Jill (27) lived with her partner, Ryan Kells. Sheree died in hospital on Phi Phi Sunday morning. At the 01am-time Monday night, Bergheim died in the same hospital.

Ryan Kells has previously said that the fiancé Jill had been in the room the whole Saturday, and that he therefore believed that the fiancée had been poisoned by the air in the room. Now, he writes on his blog that he suspects that the fiancée was poisoned by chemicals from water treatment plant nearby, writes the newspaper Andaman Times online

Bergheim lived wall to wall with Jill and Kells. "I take this to mean their rooms were next door to each other. "

Both women were transported to hospital in Phuket, where it was researched. There is also the Norwegian, who also became sick.
    - Our primary focus is to get her friend well, while we, in cooperation with the police and central health authorities, putting significant resources into getting resolved the cause of the tragedy, "said Deputy Managing Doctor, Bodin La-ied, said Wednesday morning.

Bodin says that it has taken a number of samples of women, and that all the results of these will not be ready until about three weeks. He says, however, that all three women have been hit in the stomach and intestines, not in the lungs.
He therefore believes that the air in the room have not taken the life of such Kells thinks.
Also the woman who survived have been sick in the stomach. - When she arrived at the hospital, she had in over a day and has been sick for their own statements thrown up a great many times, "he said.

The two women had been out and anchored on Saturday night, and come home in the 02am-time of Sunday night when they both were sick.
    - She said that she and the friend was on the bar Saturday night. They had bought a so-called bucket-drink, a great cocktail drink characteristic for Phi Phi.
Drink had so divided between them, says Bodin. They had nausea and threw up. First, they believed that it was alcohol.
After each was oppkastene [ vomiting] so many and so powerful that they contacted the hospital.

American Kells told that her partner was in the room the whole Saturday, and that she complained of stomach pain and vomited when he got home by 02am-time night to Sunday. Even had he been poor in the 04am-time.
Fiancée died in other words a few hours later in hospital.

    The story takes another turn...

They could of been poisoned, by someone putting something in their drink. It could of been the water? Cyanide is serious poison. Cyanide is used to kill ants, and was used by Hitler in the gas chambers...yikes! Cyanide can also be put in the air as a lethal gas.

Cyanide is pretty widely available in the islands. It is used to stun fish such as groupers so they can be supplied alive to upscale restaurants. Disgusting. Sounds like maybe the stories of the young woman turning blue might have been a red herring. Cyanide apparently makes one turn pink.

Important to remember the cause of death is still to be determined.

I was Jills fiancee. For a doctor to say that she was drinking was ridiculous. Jill had been Ill since the afternoon. How could she have told nurse anything. She was unconcious by the time I got her to the hospital. This article makes me irate. There is a water treatment plant right next to the guesthouse. How coincidental for 3 people to have the same symptoms, 2 die and 1 in ICU. We stayed right next door to the Norwegian girls. There is a chemical that killed two girls and almost one more. I cant even begin to believe that this doctor would lie about jills case. Let me repeat. Jill had no alcohol that night. It had nothing to do with a hangover. I can not believe that anyone would make up such a lie.
