Lennon was a most intelligent person, a real artist. But of course like us all not without flaws. He had his, but he was just (I think) starting to mellow out and enjoy things. He had been on such a whirlwind of a life. Much of it was screwing and protesting. Can not deny the Beatles made wonderful music that I enjoy all the time. I will till I am gone. Having said all of this. I Think he really should have been denied entry to US. That is hind site and it is always 20/20. He was a radical!

    What for?
Because he criticised the Vietnam war, admitted doing drugs, was a peace activist?

No. I think Lennon's status as an icon was Chapman's motivation. He stalked , planned and executed an internationally known and valuable human asset for the cause of peace - all over some actress puss fantasy.

And then there is the music we never heard.

    Yes, he should rot.

I can't say I care for Yoko much to be honest, but didn't she vow to have Chapman killed if he was ever released from prison?

    Love and peace, man...

Okay, so that's Jon Bon Jovi, Yoko and Lady Gaga he has to agree to top and Mark can have his parole. I think that should go some way to paying off his debt to humanity.

I think he should be released, he was even playing with a full deck when he killed Lennon. John Lennon was a one worlder liberal before his day, he wanted to do away with all differences between the sexes and religions. He didn't have to worry about living with certain people because was super rich and lived like a Roman emperor.

Personally I think he should serve all his life in Jail.

I can understand someone killing with the right motive. ie someone whose wife has been raped. That guy has got his retribution and is no threat to society.

But someone who kills to be infamous like most serial killers do?

Who's to say he won't do it again

Shooting the guy to attempt to impress Jody Foster was clearly batshit crazy- it might have been understandable, if not forgivable, had he shot Lennon over the music we never should have heard, such as the song "Woman" ("Woman I can hardly express, My mixed emotion at my thoughtlessness"- now that's genius ) or even over his absolutely inexplicable attraction to the utterly talentless (except when it comes to self-promotion), dumpy-plain bitch-on-wheels Yoko Ono. Otherwise, I can't think of any reason to allow the perpetrator of a cold-blooded, premeditated murder out of the slammer, whether the victim was a poor black guy or the writer of the insipid "Imagine," which is probably the most overrated pop song of all time.

I saw her one day having lunch at the Russian Tea Room all decked out in Chanel and expensive jewelry and thought what a complete phoney. How could he have fallen for a twit like Yoko?

There you go, as good an explanation as any, although I think it might take a stronger hallucinogen to make her look good. I've never met a Japanese Beatle fan who wasn't equally baffled by his choice of her- I mean, if you could more or less have your pick of all the girls in Japan. . .

And let's face it, he'd have 'come down' eventually, had some nasty reality checks and booted her into the River Kwai (suicide).

She wouldn't even be a household name if he hadn't been home that day.

Lennon was extremely insecure. Yoko fed his artistic pretensions and he became entralled with her avant garde persona. Prior to his death he rarely left his sanctuary at the Dakota preferring to stay home watch TV and zone out on pot.
