Tex (and some other septics on here) forget one solid, indisputable fact when it comes to the Queen, they visit Britain in droves, mostly to soak up the royal stuff. US visitors constitute a massive part of our tourism income (just ask any London cabbie or stand outside Buck House on any given day). They mostly come to see the royal aspects of our culture.

Now with this latest media frenzy, the US visitor numbers will only increase. Thanks guys for coming. It's all good, you are very welcome to come and spend your hard earned.

As for race, where did that come from. As far as I can see, the fuss is about protocol, not race. When a white bloke did the same thing there was a fuss as well (mostly by the Oz press, not the British). At the end of the day, foreigners care more about this stuff than Brits, sure the media write stories, but the average British person doesn't care. Spetics get all colonial, with their obvious chip (or potato farms) on their shoulders. Inferiority complexes abound, that's why Tex has to bring race into it. The US is so divided on race and heritage lines, he thinks that the rest of the world is like that. Septics, get over yourselves, not everyone thinks like racist scum. Although i am pissed, i think you all protest too much. HM Queen is a fine chap who moves with the times. She did not complain when Keating touched her, and when Liz and Michelle shared a hug, the only people who got excited were the media. However, as far as I'm aware, royal protocol is royal protocol all over the world. I have seen (on the news) his own subjects approach the King of this country on their knees and I doubt it would be polite to touch him. As a woman, you can't even touch a monk, here, certainly not a monarch, so why not attack the customs of other countries? Why Britain? Couldn't be because you've got a thing about bashing Britain, could it? Naaah, course not.
As for your delightful little claim that the furore was because Michelle Obama is a Negro (your wording, I believe), you really do have a twisted little mind, don't you? Most of the rest of us who live in this century think of MO as a sophisticated and elegant woman, who comes across as having a warm and peasant personality.

The queen is generally thought of as a pleasant old biddy, more at home with dogs and horses than people. There is a degree of respect for her in the nation, largely engendered by a life time of service. the rest of the crowd are not though of so well.

To answer your question, the prohibition against touching the "royal personage" is not unique to Uk, its pretty much universal for royalty, mainly because history has shown that the hand that was doing the touching all too often has a knife in it.

You wanna see how this works, try and edge your way up behind Barak Obama to give him a pat on the back. You will enjoy the results. Well, honestly, you would not - but we would.
