    Saudi judge condemns 'immoral TV'

The most senior judge in Saudi Arabia has said it is permissible to kill the owners of satellite TV channels which broadcast immoral programmes.

Sheikh Salih Ibn al-Luhaydan said some "evil" entertainment programmes aired by the channels promoted debauchery.

Dozens of satellite television channels broadcast across the Middle East, where they are watched by millions of Arabs every day.

The judge made the comments on a state radio programme.

He was speaking in response to a listener who asked his opinion on the airing of programmes featuring scantily-dressed women during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

"There is no doubt that these programmes are a great evil, and the owners of these channels are as guilty as those who watch them," said the sheikh.
"It is legitimate to kill those who call for corruption if their evil can not be stopped by other penalties."

    Royal dilemma

Given his position as the country's most senior judge, the sheikh's views can not be easily dismissed, says BBC Arab affairs analyst, Magdi Abdelhadi.

Clerics like Sheikh al-Luhaydan represent a huge dilemma for the Saudi royal family, our correspondent adds.

On the one hand, Saudi rulers need their support to claim that they rule in the name of Islam.
But on the other hand, fighting militant Islam can be difficult when the country's top judge calls for the beheading of those he views as immoral broadcasters.

I agree with the beheadings. They should behead each other as rapidly as possible, thus reducing their numbers in an ever-decreasing way. When it is just the sheikh himself, with no-one else left to kill, simply point and laugh at him.

    Middle East problem solved.

    What is 'immoral'?

Kalif Omar set his torch to the library at Alexandria, custodian to the most immense gathering of knowledge in the history of Mankind; and it is said night became day for six months before the flames were subdued....because the edifice contained some manuscripts which did not please in praise of Islam.

Why stop at the owners of the TV stations.

    Behead anyone found viewing pornography.

That should end the war on terror PDQ.

The Saudis are our friends remember?
The Brits, US and Europe are falling over them selves to arm them to the teeth with the latest weapons and keep the Royal regime in power.

No threat of regime change or democracy there as long as they keep pumping out the oil and pricing it in $USs.

They're our 'friends' because we need them close, and if you're going to keep them close may as well call them friends.

As it is said, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Btw I'd wager the Saudi royals are as paranoid of the very Islamic nutters they encourage with support as we are, because when the time comes they'll also end up on the menu.

The Saudi Royal dictators with help of the US spawned Al Qaeda. Ironic isn't it that the US is now fighting in the ME to install regime change and democracy -- except in Saudi Arabia.

Yes I would pay also to see that but most likely on the day of the event in would rain in Thailand and the UBC picture would be all fuzzy as usual.
Better to go along and witness it in person, i reckon

Why send the troops in? The Saudi Royals are already pumping the oil out at a furious rate and selling it in $USs which they largely reinvest back into the USA.

Its a pretty cozy deal that freedom and democracy would only upset.

When the good quality and cheap to extract oil runs out in a couple of decades the Royals will no doubt be off to foreign lands to enjoy their ill-gotten fortunes and the fate of the country will be left at the hands of the well armed radical Muslims the USA helped to entrench.

Who knows how its going to pan out in the long run. The only thing for sure is that the vast bulk of the countries oil wealth will have been siphoned off into the hands of a few thousand Royals and moved overseas with them. Freedom and democracy in Saudi Arabia is not in the USAs national interest at the moment. They can have it when they haven't got any more oil. Its one of the reasons BinLaden has got the shits with USA.

Yea, but their crooked dictators are dancing to our western economic tune at the moment. So no problem. They are our friends in the middle east. Second only to Israel and closely followed by the very brutal and corrupt Egyptian government funded and supported by USA. Is it any wonder these peasants are turning to radical fundamentalist religious ideals in the face of overwhelming oppression by corrupt leaders.

There are plenty of politicians that do not want anything to do with the Saudis, but the US can't move forward on alternative sources because of the liberals who do not want to do a damn thing to help this country.
