I took a business class flight before. I was bored with the features about one hour in and I still had to bomb myself out with 6 Valium to sleep at all.
Fuck long flights. Fuck them to hell.
So you think they did fly Concorde for 27 years to save face ??
There was simply enough rich ppl in the world even then , to keep Concorde full enough to make money charging $7000 one way.
1 thing killed Concorde and a 2 other things helped. The Airbus A380. Airbus was promoting the Hub and spoke model of flying with the intro of their big new product , the A380. Concorde was a point to point aircraft. Not a hub and spoke aircraft. So according to John Hutchinson and a few people in the know , Airbus jacked up the cost of maintenance of the Concorde to kill it. They successfuly killed it for Air France. But British Airways was harder to crack. BA even completely redid the interiors after 9/11
But that's the other thing. 9/11 and the Iraq war. They had to put in a new cockpit wall to separate the pilots from the passengers after 9/11. They did that. BA even redid the interiors on their Concordes after 9/11. But then the Iraq war hit and there was big diplomatic tension between the US and France. There was boycotts going both ways. Some Seppos boycotted the Concorde. Then there was the crash (which was 0% ZERO percent Concordes fault.
In the end , Airbus killed the point to point Concorde to promote the A380 and hub/spoke. Turns out that was totally fucking wrong anyway. Point to point won out as the format and the A380 is already discontinued. Everything is point to point now and that's a natural for a supersonic aircraft like Concorde which is why a replacement is being built.
Again: A lot of the seats on Concorde were rewards for frequent flying Premium Cabins on other aircraft, and for corporate accounts.
BA minted it at one point. It's how they ended up with all these overpaid, old poofs and tarts who make up their cabin crew.
Every time they made a murmur about striking, Lord King gave them a fucking pay rise. BA could afford it then.
Per John Hutchinson, there was 15 years left in the Concorde. But the frogs killed it.
^ and that reply shows that you are still pre-puberty.
Admittedly I didn't fly on every BA Concorde flight that ever took, but on the handful that I flew, all before 911 the plane was always half full at best .
I never flew Concorde with Air France, perhaps they had better passenger numbers but they did offer an 'economy' cabin while BA only had 'Concorde Class'
Enjoy the rest of your day/evening
You didn't fly Concorde at all.
Almost everyone , especially ppl who weren't rich and famous , got some pics or something if they flew Concorde. But if you have no pics , at least tell us where you were flying , why you flying and who you were with , who paid for it ect
I happen to be a hardcore Concorde and SST fan. I paid an extra $100 to get a full guided tour of the Concorde in NY.
So I am not going to take random claims from a TD'er with under 1000 posts, lightly.
It's funny how people say Concorde was a ridiculous toy for the rich and at the same time , they take it at face value when some random TDer says they flew Concorde
I can well understand why HAL doesn't find a need to prove anything to you.
Who the fook do you think you are?
Deary me...if only things were so simple. I'm afraid there's an awful lot more to it than that. I guess you need to read up on aerofoil shape and design for supersonic flight as well as how you are going to take-off and land the beast at reasonable speeds and runway lengths. The method of propulsion is another topic altogether...
Not quite the no-brainer you think. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
Jesuuuuus... All I was fucking saying is that supersonic flight provides a sweet spot where wind drag actually starts falling again, instead of rising. Most ppl don't know that. I wasn't saying that developing SST is a walk in the park even though it is compared to these ridiculous hypersonic and stupid ideas or rocket powered orbital flight nonsense.
They wanted to fully area rule the Concorde but couldn't because they had to make it out of aluminum. Now with carbon fiber, they can fully area rule the shape, exactly how they want it. And they've done that on the XB-1 demonstrator.I guess you need to read up on aerofoil shape
They are using full 4k video which eliminates the need for the heavy and complicated drop nose that the Concorde had. This weight savings allows them to reduce take off speed and landing as wellas well as how you are going to take-off and land the beast at reasonable speeds and runway lengths.
It was all done on Concorde with analog computers. With 2020 digital, it will be a cinch in comparison. The method of propulsion is another topic altogether...
Well maybe you should email Japan Airlines. A 70 year old company and one of the best in the business and tell them that supersonic can't be done.
