    Sunday Lunch

Went with parents and sister to a local semi-posh Sunday lunch place. Tasted great. Cost £135 all in with a few drinks and coffees (no starter or dessert) - very full.

^ Had a couple of IPAs.

The food was really nice; enjoyed it plenty; everyone enjoyed it.

Then, went off with me sister to a local pub and had another IPA (parents headed home).

Headed home, sister headed back to hers, and I picked up 4 IPAs. Also, some tiramasu and trifle for desert...

Nothing beats a nice British sunday lunch with a couple of beers - a very enjoyable day.

Looks good. Very good in fact.

Can't get my head around a man buying beers and tiramisu and trifle for later beer snacks though.

Must be a southern thing cos it's acceptable to be a bit feminine down there, isn't it?

^ I've just added trifle to my bucket list. Somehow I forgot all about it.

I have a lot of eating to do over the next couple of days.

Ahh, dont mind coming runner up to that perfectly done chef cooked Sunday lunch.

Take no notice of Hal and his dining etiquette Betty. If that was Hal sat there top left, he'd have emptied your gravy boat and had that cod swimming around in it whilst trying to explain to the waiter what a Boddingtons is.

Looks good Betty and all that for 135 squid, you can't complain. There is nothing I enjoy more than heading to a country pub for a slap up roast/ booze and then a nice walk, especially in the winter.

It was surprising that I didn't vomit... I ate enough yesterday, and not always in the correct order or time of day.

There's so much, Mendip... You need a luxury raspberry trifle, a double chocolate and a summer fuits - that's just on the trifle department.

Yours was a very good home made Sunday lunch, I was impressed.

I will be doing some fish and chips, but not with ponsy chips; I'll be going to a proper chippy with proper chips... There's two in Buntingford (the Chinese Chippy and the Cypriot Chippy... )

Yeah, the price was decent. &, a nice Sunday lunch pub style is great, I agree.

Right! I may be overeating in my excitement of seeing the wonderful British food options (much under-rated and misunderstood globally...), but I'm not chinny. I'm not even particularly fat - maybe a 5kgs more than I should be (could be 7 or 8 by the time I get home...).

I've never really considered a chocolate trifle to be a true trifle, to be honest. It just seems like chocolate mouse with cream on top.

The Co-op only does strawberry trifles, but Broadly speaking I reckon they're pretty much the same as your luxury raspberry trifle. Anyway, it went well with a bottle of cider.

That Beavertown Neck Oil is pretty good, isn't it?

I don't really like a lot of IPAs, but that's drinkable and doesn't taste like washing up liquid.

Yeah, I liked it (first time, I've had it) - and at £6.10 a pint, that was important...

^ & ^^ funny you should say that... Walking up Hertford High St (I worked there abouuuuuut 30 years ago) all the banks had been replaced by "trendy" bar/restaurant type places which were massively overpriced, sold silly sounding food and were frequented by metrosexuals with large beards. The place I went to was the closest thing to a pub I could find.

Buntingford is only 20 miles or so away, and whilst there has been plenty of this horrible "gentrification" stuff going on, it still maintains more traditional stuff such as a couple of old pubs on the high street that sell Greenking IPA and pork scratchings.

Edit to add: 11p cut in beer tax from today: Tax on wines and spirits increases from today, but some good news if you're going to the pub for a pint | Business News | Sky News

If the Royal Mail are to be trusted, today will be a big day for Armstrong.

Excellent work, Mendip - looks perfect for a traditional trifle.

But, have you done the luxury double clotted cream rice pudding yet? I've done a couple from M&S and a couple from ASDA - the ASDA ones were far better, surprisingly.

Then, there's a bread and butter pudding with thick cream...

I'm also thinking about The Chippy today - I'll take a couple of pics of the options; Chinese Chippy or Cypriot Chippy.

^ a lovely bit of virtue signalling or resignation to a poor upcoming season?

In other news, just booking an AirBNB in Tel Aviv, decided on the Carmel Market area - close to beach, nightlife, market, Jaffa (), trains, and there's both the airport link and fast train to Jerusalem - just researching now... Stay there for 3 nights then fly to Korea.

^ Breakfast, t'was - a bit of M&S chicken thighs with one of their strange bread numbers (had onions on a chibatta type thing)...

I probably should have gotten the blue shirt, but I just like the orange shirt more.

That pub looks basic! Where's the organic food menu?

How much was the Leffe? That'd be getting on for £10 in the Hertford Bell.

Thought of the day: should I buy a Luton football shirt while I'm on my way to the airport to keep me safer in Israel from a random shooting? Would the Israelis even let me into the country wearing a Luton shirt?

I got some message from Israel accom asking for my B2 certificate - I suppose I'd better check what that is and how to get it...
