I am used to attach pics from my com to my posts, as practised on, ahem, some other webboard.
Haven't found this option, and frankly, can't be arsed to upload my collection to some web service, only to link to this for you suckers to have a look at it.

I agree. It's inconvenient. Even KoratFarang has the facility to direct upload.

In fact, I've had to delay my SangSom and soda at least ten minutes while I uploaded a web cam shot over on the "What Beer Should I Drink?" thread.

It should be a one-step process, not four or five.

it is too easy to upload viruses and keyloggers when attachments are enabled.

Seriously, I would appreciate this option very much.
Other boards seem to have found a safe way to enable it.

upload shit to your gallery, then link it to your posts. If you can't handle that; you're too stupid to live.

I can do it, it's just more trouble than it ought to be:

Go to Gallery
Click upload
Choose the file
Click upload
Click continue
Select an album
Click continue
Click continue again
Find the photo
Click on the thumbnail
Click on the slightly larger thumbnail to get the full-sized version
Click to get the image URL
Past the URL into your post

Is there an easier way?

Yeah it is a pain. But no There ain't an easier way. AS DD said, allowing attachemnts is just not safe for the board users.
Uploading pics does require some fore-thought. It's best if you make an album before uploading. then upload. then you can attach. you can also lin to the pic from anyother site rather easily. Right click -> copy location. then just click on the button for a inserting a pic and go.
Now, if I could just get this POS windows machine to recognize my camera...

I think I figured out how to eliminate a few steps. Once you upload the photo and select an album you can figure out the URL as follows:

https://teakdoor.com/Gallery/albums/userpics/<gallery#>/<file_name>

Every "album" has a unique gallery number. So, if you know the name of the photo and the number of the album to which you uploaded it you can figure out the URL without actually loading the full size image.

Still, if both TV and KoratFarang manage direct uploads, why not TD?

There are so many things that can be hidden behind a jpg uploaded as an attachment, a few months ago there was an ip logger that could be used against simple machines forums, also having upto 20 pics per page that would involve a lot of clicking to view the pics, also after viewing one page of pics you would have 20 windows to close.
