Really? Is that why their ribcages keep moving in and out? Don't know where you are getting your information, but it is incorrect. Stroke the lizard to sleep and will continue to lie there for some time until poked or shouted at; it won't asphyxiate. Works with crocodilians, too, but not snakes. Sorry to have to waste my time replying but I don't much like being baselessly accused of abusing animals.Quote:

^ Plenty of info about it on the net. I had a neighbor who loved her lizard like a child. She would always keep it on her lap "sleeping" until one day it didn't wake up. She took it to the vet and they told her it suffocated because she kept it on it's back for too long.

No, your dragon isn't sleeping! More likely he's suffocating!
Lizards do not have diaphragms. The diaphragm in a human is located under the lungs. It helps our lungs expand and contract to bring in air or expel air from our lungs. The diaphragm in humans also helps keep the abdominal organs from getting into the lung cavity.
Reptiles don't have this so they use the their ribs to expand or contract their lungs and fill them or expel air from their lungs.
When a lizard is placed on it's back the abdominal organs may displace and apply pressure to the lizards lung cavity and rib cage. This may make the act of breathing very difficult for your lizard. So when you turn your dragon on it's back and it closes it's eyes, it's probably not sleeping ... it might be zoning out to some degree though ... it's most likely concentrating on breathing.
A reptile left on it's back for a period of time will often die of suffocation ... and in some cases exposure such as a turtle turned on it's back that cant right itself, baking in the hot sun. :(
^In my experience they always right themselves a few seconds after the stroking stops, provided they aren't restrained. Perhaps it is different for large lizards, like bearded dragons. I seriously doubt that doing so for a few seconds before releasing the animal does any damage whatsoever. It isn't as if the ginga is being chopped up for goi. In any case, sorry, you haven't spoiled the fun, I haven't seen one any worse for wear from that treatment yet, and this thread has been frayed enough. I'm sure if this bra and knickers relay 'game' was played in some countries there'd be outcry. Teams of five with a set of bra and knickers per team, put it on, run 20m and change to next runner.
