You might be thinking of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. I'm pretty sure he was not in any versions of The Bounty. Mel Gibson was in the 1984 remake.

Finally got around to watching this after Davis reminder. Kind of ahead of its time as a war movie in many ways.

Nice footage of genuine Russian T34s and whistling death Vought Corsairs (even though they were never actually flown on the eastern front).

Seems strange that a ranking captain has no decorations. All the men in the company are wearing the iron cross 1st class and none the 2nd class which is also strange. The 1st class was a much rarer award than the 2nd class.
