    Boaty McBoatface

The British public were invited to name our new boat a £200 million polar research vessel

    guess what happened next ?

    yes you got it :
some government toff scoffed we are ''unlikely to endorse the result. ''

Britain’s new £200 million polar research vessel is unlikely to be christened RRS Boaty McBoatface, despite the name being voted the runaway winner in a public
    I think its a great name !
but as usual fuck democracy when they don't like the results ..

In a bid to publicise the creation of Britain’s largest and most advanced research ship, the Natural Environment Research Council asked the public to vote on a name for the state-of-the-art vessel, challenging people to come up with an “inspirational” title.

But when the internet poll closed yesterday, Boaty McBoatface was streets ahead, with 124,000 votes, more than four times that of its nearest rival, Poppy-Mai.

    Top 5 suggestions

    RRS Boaty McBoatface - 124,109
    RRS Poppy-Mai - 34,371
    RRS Henry Worsley - 15,231
    RRS It's bloody cold here - 10,679
    RRS David Attenborough - 10,284

Jo Johnson, the science minister, signalled that ministers were unlikely to endorse the result. He told the Daily Telegraph: “You won't be surprised to know that we want something that fits the mission and captures the spirit of scientific endeavour. I am grateful to everyone who has participated in the competition."

I wonder how many solar powered homes could have been provided out of that 200mil boat with better results!

Mcboatface? Why not just paint a big white golden arch "M" on it. Call it the Mcwhopper, it's already supersized. Can I we get a fry and a coke to go with that?

The minister is missing a great opportunity here.

Get himself front and centre on every TV camera and say "OK, I'd like to address everybody under the age of 16 who is watching this: Challenge Accepted! We'll go with Boaty McBoatface, science is cool but now it's your turn.
Now, all of you who are still at school and voted for it get off your arses and go and study and learn and maybe, if you are really really good, you'll get to work on Boaty McBoatface!
" Get that guy on the ISS involved and give the nation something to talk about instead of the fucking referendum and frogs and tax avoidance for a change.
    bibo ergo sum

McFace is the new black this season:

Horsey McHorseface, because 'hey, why not?'

A New Zealand-bred horse is making waves in the racing world for his "unique" moniker.

Horsey McHorseface was purchased for $45,000 in New Zealand in November by Australian Joe Rosetti. The 2-year-old gelding will debut in Australia next month.

Rosetti's racing manager Jake Bruce spoke to CNN about the quirky name.

"We had a laugh about it in the office and thought, 'Hey, why not'," he said.

"Joe's a good bloke and he's a good horse. We just thought it would be a good fit."

Burke said Horsey had "as good a chance as any to make it".

"We'd absolutely love to win with him on a big day. It would be hilarious and great for the owners," he told CNN.

The name follows an online poll in the UK where thousands of people flocked to a government website to support naming a British research ship RRS Boaty McBoatface.

It was a stupid idea to ask the public to name it. Just tell someone in the Natural Environment Research Council to name it. Useless McUselessface gits.

    Agree.

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.... Winston Churchill

I'm partial to ...RRS Sir David Attenborough

I went to dinner once on HMS Endurance. (Before Falklands) it had a 2 helicopters and about 6 or so marines on board! I don't see a hangar on the new one!

I think it would have been correct to call it Shippy McShipface. Sailors get shipfaced all the time.

I think Boaty MacBoatface is a very gay name. Gay in the sense of useless and camp. I question why anyone serious should inflict that on a vessel.

It should be given a dignified name. Britain and the Commonwealth have the best explorers. Hillary, Captain Fawcett, Robert Falcon Scott

Its typical Britain nowadays. Everything has to be whimsy and diverse and trivial. Mr Humphries and Larry Grayson shit.

Great name to offend the toffs in power though
and as it turned out good lesson in real life democracy for the kids that voted for it

maybe they should just have had British explorers and scientists etc on the vote list

I dont think it offends anyone in the elites. It just confirms their suspicions that the hoi polloi is basically gay, slightly on the autistic spectrum, fair game for manipulation and servitude but unfit for the trenches like what their Grandfathers once did so bravely.

Have you come across Blue yet?

Actually that doesn't sound quite right. Let me rephrase the question...

... Oh stuff it, never mind

Interesting thoughts on how an assumed name can make someone seem 'basically gay', CR7CristianoRonaldo.

I mean in the 'useless' sense of the word. Not gay as in bright and colourful.
