Green owed!:)
Amazon?:)
I buy most of my booze for home from there nowadays, those fukkers monitor and price match every offer the supermarkets come up with.
I'm on my last can of Kronenburg sat here in the garden at the mo. 15 440ml cans for 10.99. I cant be dealing with those 2 swig 250ml bottles and dropping the things off in those bottle/charity clothes bank after.
Dont you feel a bit gay/get some funny looks when ordering a pint of that?:)
A decent beer.

What's the Butcombe Goram IPA like, Mendip?
Butcombe is a village just north of Blagdon Lake and there is nothing gay about it. It's a man's place and a man's beer. Many years ago I had a good mate from Butcombe who I used to go ferreting with.
It's nice but I prefer the standard, traditional Butcombe bitter. Mind you, I'm pretty conservative in my tastes in all things.
Oh, and another 'Green owed' for that pic, I guess. Please can you keep track of it. :)
Tonight I had a night off Butcombe and tried something completely different. A first for me, and probably a last, to be honest. There was nothing wrong with it but I'll never remember the name. And I don't really know how to say it.

Where ever I go, I seem to end up drinking with dogs. I guess I just prefer their company to humans. No offense meant to anyone, of course.
Thatchers Katy.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...0&d=1690484413
And to finish up, a Thatchers Vintage. I can't decide if I prefer Katy or Vintage, so tomorrow I'll probably go for both again.

Nice little snack there Mendy, how was the vintage? at 8.3, I can only assume good!
Green owed your way, whenever I am allowed by the matrix to give you one!
Amazon indeed Red! They do some great deals. I am sure the bottles are 100% recyclable and do not have much of a carbon footprint. The reason I have now gone with 275ml is because I do not want to drink too much. I would prefer to have a 275ml bottle 6 days a week than a big can only 3 days a week!
Just a wee tipple does me fine, I am not a big drinker but when I am busy, as I am now, I like something to take the edge off at the end of the day.
Mendy 555 are those carrots of wotsits?
Hi Mendy, I love that old phone booth with the books in it..have never seen that before. Your daughter is so grown up and tall now. :)
I haven't heard of that beer before. I miss the days of pubs on every corner when I was in England.

I don't drink too much these days, but the odd one of these is my go to drink nowadays. Low in carbs and sugar, just vodka with flavored water.
Sitting on my patio, reading a book and enjoying the nice weather.

Well back home now in Thailand. Got back yesterday. I will miss the outstanding selection of IPA's with very nice ABV's of 7 to 8%
Had a bit of a OMG this morning. Went to the pool bar fridge to get a beer and it was empty. :sssh:.
This called for an emergency run to Makro

After restock. Few IPA varieties, Blonde, Lagers, Dark and Hefe's. Now just have to wait for them to chill. Perfect time being a holiday weekend and all. :)
Well after a pool vacuum and yard all back to manageable after being gone a month in California its feet up movie time. I was in Tiburon having lunch with my wife a few weeks back and I decided to have a Amaretto sour. (Sans the egg as they usually do). In speaking with the bartender he never uses Egg and has a modified version of the drink which sounded really good. He went over the ingredients and his process. Typically Amaretto Sours get a bad review because they are made too sweet but the way this guy made them, they were refreshingly different and very good.
Ingredients
1.5 oz Amaretto
1 oz Bourbon or whiskey, higher ABV the better so cask strength is ideal I didn't want to open a bottle so I used Buffalo Trace.
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon of simple syrup or what I used was Lemon juice cordial
Put in a shaker with a bit of ice and shake until well chilled
Pour over ice and add a Maraschino cherry.
Absolutely delicious :)

I'm not surprised they get a bad name, what's that Looperesque concoction? a Gayboys Godfather?:)
To make a mans one use more scotch than amaretto and lose the shaker, syrup, cherry, umbrella and sparkler:)
Godfather Cocktail Recipe
Ameretto? good Lord the 80s are back :)
^ I quite enjoy a Godfather, and it doesn't have to be Scotch. Any whiskey will do. :). It ranks right up there with an Old Fashion for me. I enjoy mixing up my cocktails because well like PAG, he cooks up some awesome meals, I make up some really good cocktails. The Amaretto Sour is actually a pretty refreshing cocktail when its hot out however I prefer my Whiskey (Rye) and Bourbon Neat 90% of the time and never mix my good stuff.

Drop on by Dil. I have a cocktail list and can whip up a drink anyway ya want. I have 3 or 4 bottles at Cask Strength ( 118 to 125 Proof) that will curl your short hairs.......:)
^ :tumbs: I'll bring my new waterproof sheet:)
Drambuie whisky liqueur... Nice! :)
Overdue a bottle of Adnams Broadside being just a year past the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Solebay where the fledgling Royal Navy faced off against a Dutch early morning surprise attack at home

Better than I was expecting. Nuts and caramel with a heavy calibre 6.3% that takes you by surprise, paired with a rare cigarette to recreate the gun-smoke from the lower deck 42-pounders - which I had earned after a 4km lung-busting run this arvo.
I am just reading about the wrestling match between Blighty and Holland in 'Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World' so this was a timely quaff
^ I used to smoke Old Holborn rollies many years ago, before I started flying a lot and went on to duty free Drum and Samson. That's brought back some memories.
^I left a full pack (2-3 year supply for me) unguarded in plain view and it was plundered by Miss Solomon Islands of the mossy-lichen brassiere.
She demolished it in a single 3-day visit so this pack is kept well hidden at the back of the top shelf!
I kept an old packet to re-use so I don't need to look at the medical warning photos on the new packaging.
Enjoying a 21 year old Johnny Walker.
the tasting notes say:
"A sweet creamy core of rare Port Dundas is blended and married first. Then, whiskies that have been matured in American oak are added to add and nurture sweetness in the blend. Aged single malts are then added to the mix so that layers of rich fruit and malty flavours are encouraged and enhanced.
On the nose, notes of spiced apple, smoky oak and a little toasted brioche wafts from the whisky glass.
On the palate, the taste of this best Scotch Whiskey is rather herbal as it opens. It then gives way to tastes of orange and lemon peels by the bucket-load. This then follows with a kick of smoky malt, leaving a satisfactory taste in the mouth.
The finish has wafts of sherry-soaked raisins that are long and lasting"
Attachment 105188
^ Nice!
For me a decent Scotch is hard to beat for a tipple.
Mind you, I can produce long and lasting wafts after a couple of pints of real ale.
^ I'd forgotten all about Sheppy's cider, and can't remember the last time I drank it.
Something I will have to rectify over the next two days.
^^That looks like Eddy's used your bottle after one of his gruelling workouts:)
^ I knew I shouldn't have ordered it from eddiecheddarrefreshments.com. :(
At last it's Blackberry picking season!
Banana and BlackBerry shake..

Burrow Hill. I enjoyed it more than the Sheppy's.
https://i.imgur.com/0alWE36.jpg
^ Well, that's a bit weird. I have a good friend from Kingsbury Episcopi who I've worked offshore with, on and off, for the past 25 years or so. He recommended a visit to see the Burrow Hill Cider Farm which I was going to combine with a catch-up and lunch. But it didn't happen.
A pint of Sheppy's cider also didn't happen.
But I did sneak in a few Inches this afternoon to round off my 'holiday'.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...9&d=1690916043
In fact I managed three before the daughter started to play up.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...0&d=1690916056
I like to share a few Inches with the local dogs.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1690916067
On the way home after the cider, I shared a few memories with the daughter which bored her senseless of course. Back in the 80s this is where we all the village kids used to wait every morning for the school buses to the local comp. Occasionally a few of us would sneak off and hide in the public toilets (just in front of the Golden Lion), wait for the buses to come and go, and then go down to the snooker club for a couple of hours. The Golden Lion used to open around 10:30am, and then we'd pop in for a pint or two. Still wearing school uniforms.

Different times!
I took the Current Wannabe Mrs. Shu (CWMS) to M acau for a few days. My pics seem to be mostly of the beverages. She has hundreds of food which I'll not bother people with. We weren't being touristy so there are almost no pics except F&B, certainly not enough for a standalone thread. That said, every trip starts somewhere and ours got going from the off-airport parking at Udon Thani, travelling in style in the executive shuttle bus.
Attachment 105351
On to Macau where the standard Super Bock had to be first choice. There was a smoked sausage and bean casserole, Portuguese style, along the way.
Attachment 105352
The first night was at The Roadhouse. I don't see Guinness very often where I live, so a few of these were in order. Frankly, at nearly ten quid a pint, fewer than I might have liked.
Attachment 105353
My memory is a bit vague, I think the next day was lunch at Coloane old village, a Portuguese place just behind Lord Stow's bakery, which was mentioned elsewhere for its famous egg tarts.
Being lunchtime, a jug of white wine hit the spot. Some of my happiest wines have come from a jug. There were sardines and other bits too, I think.

So why, one might ask, does TD sometimes show 'attached thumbnails' and sometimes not? And why sideways? Two of life's mysteries.
Late afternoon we repaired to the Old Taipa Tavern. My old friend Tsing Tao was there.
Attachment 105358
I wonder why it is 'imported'? Surely it is all China now? Maybe I should report it.
One thing sorely absent in Thailand is a choice of craft beers, so the board caught my attention.
Attachment 105359
It was hot, a refreshing cider seemed the way to go.
Attachment 105360
Choices! A rare treat. I'm sure it won't impress the cider police, I went for the Pandan Cider. Which tastes like its name suggests. Actually very drinkable, although one was enough.
Attachment 105361
Try again.
Attachment 105362
Dinner at O Manuel. This used to be a hidden Portugues gem. Social media caught up with it and it is now packed every night. The food is still good. I always drink the house wine here. Manuel told me years ago his red wine came from Portugal, never having seen the inside of a bottle. I guess it is still the same. Very quaffable.
Attachment 105363
I found a food pic. Deconstructed clams in white wine, spicy olives and bread rolls.
Attachment 105364
Next day was a short hop to Hong Kong. The morning's tasks completed, there was news of a new grandaughter to be celebrated. Since we were walking past, the Captain's Bar seemed the obvious choice. It didn't impress CWMS, just another bar to her. She doesn't seem to feel much sense of history. I gave her a glass of rose, which I think was a first for her, whilst I went for a pint of the own-brand lager, served in the traditional mug.
Attachment 105365
From there it was straight to the ferry, where limited beverages are available.
Attachment 105366
Our route took us close to the Old Taipa Tavern, again. This time I went for the Black Kite Chestnut Ale and pronounced it very good.
Attachment 105367
Conveniently close by is A Petisqueira, another established Portuguese restaurant. Typically full these days, with no booking we were given a table on the condition that we not outstay our welcome. A bottle of something red was called for.
Attachment 105368
The next day found us at Fernando's. They don't go in for extravagant signage.
Attachment 105369
A light, white sangria seemed like a good lunctime choice.
Attachment 105370
Dinner time loomed and we crossed the bridge to Macau proper. Up to the Cathedral Cafe behind the old post office. Maybe my mistake to give CWMS a free choice. She went for the rose sangria. Steve the owner saw my plight and kindly swung by with an extra splash of wine to turn it into a drink.
Attachment 105371
The following day was our last. CWMS had followed me around dutifully so I took her for a lunchtime splurge at Galaxy's Urban Kitchen. An all-you-can-eat, top quality buffet. Recommended. No alcohol was taken! However we did get some Hong Kong milk tea, one of those things that strikes you as peculiar when you first taste it, but after a decade or so you kind of miss it.
Attachment 105372
The cappuccino was terminally cute.
Attachment 105373
After a nap it was back to Macau for the beers I had promised myself the day before. The Cathedral Cafe usually has folk to talk with. A few Super Bocks were in order.
Attachment 105374
Excellent trip, it appears to be all about the drinks!
Respect.
