I was in a beer bar in Soi 7 that's frequented by mostly Germans.
I asked one of the girls there "You can sprechen deutsch dai mai?" and immediately realised my mistake soon as the words left my mouth.
Surprisingly, the girl answered me and we just carried on chatting in English as if nothing had happened.

I'd rightly request that I be bludgeoned with a blunt instrument should I part with any such bastardisations.

Ever speak Thai with other falangs?

Once I was playing pool with a random Dutch fella who had shocking english and OK Thai so we communicated in Thai while drinking beer and playing pool in a red light district falang bar in Chiang Mai. We must have look like a pair of twats.

"a red light district in Chiang Mai".

Is that like a posh way of saying Loi Kroh?

I loathe that expression and swear I will never use it so long as I am alive.

One I do use with dramatic effect sounds something like " orrhorr " whenever something is excessive, or someone is trying their luck. Taxi driver quotes a ThB 500 fare instead of using the meter.. "orrhorr", change is ThB 100 light, "orrhorr".

Watch any sporting event on local tv for 3 to 5 seconds if you want to get that "orrhorr" sound perfected. Does my fucking head in.

    That does get old fast.

The missus has Channel 3's Sorrayuth on in the morning and that guy can give more 'orrhorr's' than anyone I've ever heard.

I can't possibly sit through any sporting event with Thai commentary any more. I remember one occasion when the Thai commentators were talking OVER the English commentary which you could still hear. AAAARGH (<--that's English BTW)
