    E-Readers

I'm out of books and it's a fucking nightmare. I've downloaded a few e-books but they're a bit difficult to get into on the computer and I don't like taking my laptop to the local shop because the regulars might mistake me for a rich person and plot to butcher me on my way home.

Question one: Which is the cheapest?

Question two: Can I get them in Tescos?

Can't really help you with locally available e-readers but to read the books on your computer or laptop just install 'Calibre' which is a great program to also organise and convert (if necessary) your books.

I just got my new Kindle - absolutely brilliant - won't miss it for the world.

You can't beat a Kindle- 4750 baht shipped to LOS (including import tax) from Amazon.

There may be cheaper versions, but the quality is amazing, and you'll have an Amazon account for ordering books.

Calibre is a progam that will act as a library, a converter from anything to anything and a reader for your pc. Does ePub natch.

A cheap tablet will do the same things as a kindle and more. Recon 2 k will get you one.
Should have robbed those backpackers, bet one of the bitches had a fuckin iPad in her kit.

If you are going to get a reader or tablet, it will quickly become a constant and irreplaceable companion. Best to spend a few dollars, rather than save a few.

You won't like reading from a back-lit screen- your eyes will tire pretty quickly- the beauty of the Kindle is the use of e-ink which relies on ambient light.

^^ problem with kindles is as soon as you see someone with an iPad or tablet highlight a word or phrase in a book and shoot of to wiki or the web to research, you may feel a bit of a dill.

If you want to read books get an kindle or kobo etc ,take it out on its own , sit in the sunshine and read away

if its just the idea of reading you like then get a tablet ,so you can do 10 other things in between reading the odd paragraph .

^ yeah right - I look at you poseurs and think you are luddites

my first "e-reader" was a dell axim x50v with a 3.7 inch resistive touch screen which I purchased in 2004 - worked fine in sunlight if you just inverted the colours.

I next used a galaxy s2 , then now I have the galaxy note 2 as my e-reader

I have read for hours at a time on all these devices and never suffered any of these problems/ailments that are frequently postulated by those trying to justify their purchase of an inferior device
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

    ^

I've got a new iPad and an older Kindle (as well as a Kindle Fire that I never use)- I choose to read books via the Kindle (though I read magazines on the iPad, which is better for pictures)- I'm not really trying to 'justify' a purchase.

Seriously If you want something for just reading books and you want to be able to read it outside suring daytime. You have no choice but to buy an e-ink reader, like the kindle. If you buy and android, or ipad you will seriously regret it, because use them on a bright day... you cannot see a thing on the screen.... and with the cheaper android tabs the screen resolution is horrid for reading.
