    Sudden changes in your health

I have to say I have been extremely lucky for the first 2 / 3rds of my stay on this planet , blessed with a relatively healthy life compared to many less fortunate .

However just lately ( last 2 weeks ) I have been in bloody agony in most my joints , now this time of the year with the cold + damp atmosphere here in the UK it always flames up , but this year its really hit hard. Ok a lot of it i.e. knees is down to the fact I am overweight , but I am now seriously doing something about it .

Its a bastard thing joint pain , however this has really shaken me into doing something about it , i.e. lots of excersise , eating much less , the last thing I want to do is end up a burden to my younger wife , it worries me more than the pain at times , although she says I am crazy to worry about that . Bless her she's a goodun

However all that pales into insignificance when I found out this week a mate I used to go to school with has just out the blue been diagnosed with the terminal big C .

Just goes to show sometimes we merrily go along day to day and then bang we get pulled up in our tracks , I know I for one have been guilty in the past of not looking after myself as I should have done .

Enjoy each day and make the most of it whilst you have your health !
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

I just had a check up at Lanna Hosp. (Executive Man - 2550 baht) Relatively clean bill of health (for my age)

Gotta laugh, 2550 baht included 200 baht for the doctor to go through the report and explain the fine details. Back in oz, 2550 baht ($80) wouldn't even get the doctor to come from his tea break.

I'm just a cynic.I'm older than you and I have young daughters, I don't think of being a burden in later life, most wife's here think of the pension benefits.

About 18 months ago i made a visit to my new doctor, shes in her late 30's and has a rather pleasant manner and seems genuinely interested in my general health. A full MOT is whats required i am told. Results of the blood tests reveal a thyroid problem, she puts me on Levothyroxine, a few more blood tests and adjustments in dosage and i feel no different.
September this year i have a three week break in Thailand and Cambodia, suddenly i start to wake up in the morning much refreshed. Wide awake and and with renewed energy. Well is December now and i feel 10 years younger. Aches and pains gone, i dont need that afternoon nap. Energy levels up, have lost 20lbs in weight.
I had no idea before that i was ill, just put it down to nearing 60. The drug took some time to work but what a difference.
Get those check ups done chaps.

GP consultations are free with a medicare card which all citizens qualify for.

Got an appointment at a new place with a Dr Gupta last week for a skin check. I was waiting in reception and this nice indian woman doctor in her 30s walked past with a nice smile. My invisible tail was wagging. Then a droopy shouldered balding indian male doctor in his late 50s came out and called my name and stared at his desk looking depressed for the duration of the 15 minute consultation

I got the name of the woman doctor so I might be cheeky and request her by name next time

I seem to remember in a thread on here a while back about Apple Cider vinegar , and how it was very good for the joints etc, might be worth giving it a try.

My joints are ok but I'll buy anything and have been using it since and can testify it tastes nice on chips too.

I generally find that I feel healthier when not in the US. It took me years to figure out that I was having reactions to the wide spread use of chemical preservatives in the food here (in the US).

If it is a sharp pain in the joints couldn't it be gout? Something like uric acid crystals forming in the joints and irritating the nerves.

There was a gout thread on here I think a while back.

tell your mate to watch this and drink piss from a healthy person. I'm serious mate, if I get it that's what I'd try cos I could never afford the treatment.

    Huh?
What are you on about Looper?

With Medicare you still have to pay the GP for the consultation.
You do get a 60/70 % refund when you take the receipt to the Medicare office, but it's not exactly free.

And it's not only for Aussie citizens, permanent residents are also covered.

Sounds like it could be Long QT syndrome! No warning, heart stops often from a slight shock. Deadly and runs in the family, Kids need to be checked. We have 2 kids in our school. All staff are trained on using a defib and giving adrenalin shots.
