^ Hodgson was very dignified in his response. Then again, he doesn't really need to say anything, does he?
:)
In other news, Robin Van Persie was named PFA Player of the Year and Wolves, unsurprisingly, are relegated.
Andre Marriner has been named as referee for the Manchester City-Manchester United match on 30 April.
Marriner, 41, oversaw United's October draw against Liverpool, which was overshadowed by the Patrice Evra-Luis Suarez racism row.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says it will he a "derby of amazing proportions" as the Premier League title hangs in the balance.
City trail their local rivals by three points but have better goal difference.
Marriner, from Sheldon in the West Midlands, has refereed United three times this season - at Norwich, Liverpool and Bolton - but has yet to take charge of a City match.
TEAM NEWS
Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has completed a three-game ban, but is unlikely to start given the form of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
Defender Micah Richards is available after missing the win at Wolves because of a knee problem.
Manchester United have reported no new injury concerns, so long-term absentees Nemanja Vidic, Darren Fletcher and Anderson are the only players missing.
Phil Jones or Chris Smalling could replace Rafael at right-back.
MATCH PREVIEW
"The most eagerly-awaited Manchester derby in years". That's how I started the preview for the October meeting of United and City at Old Trafford.
I somehow think that this one has gone up a couple of notches even from that. Even Sir Alex Ferguson has called it "a derby of amazing proportions… probably the most important in my time".
I realise you will all know, but here's a handy reminder of what every outcome means:
City win - it's all level with two games to go, with City's goal difference significantly better.
A draw - and United would need four points from their last two games to win the title, regardless of what City do. A victory against Swansea in their next match would clinch it if City fail to win at Newcastle.
United win - and the title is all but in the bag. One more point would seal it.
It was only really last weekend when many started to think that the title race wasn't quite run, but for City fans the first spark of belief came two and a half weeks ago.
I was at the Etihad the night Roberto Mancini's team demolished West Brom 4-0 as United lost at Wigan. The roar that greeted the full-time score from the DW Stadium almost matched that for any of City's goals, and as fans left the ground the phrase "it's back on" was on everyone's lips.
Two more wins later and it really is back on, with the Carlos Tevez factor having come firmly into play. The pariah of the whole city just a few weeks ago, he's back to being a blue hero - at least until the season's end. Imagine how fired up he'll be for this one? Imagine how determined his former team-mates will be to stop him?
There'll surely be no repeat of the defensive aberrations that saw United concede four to Everton last weekend (let alone the six shipped to City in October! ) and with them only needing a point to make sure they stay in command of things, you'd expect Ferguson to set up his team to make sure they get it.
A packed house. A galaxy of stars. Everything at stake. It might turn out to be a cagey, nervous contest - but will be no less enthralling for it. Unmissable? Yes, we'll go along with that.
my maths is not quite thereQuote:

The wobble stopped, Southampton won easily and are promoted to the Big Money league.
^ Bless them, they're singing "We are going up".
So are your season tickets, you thick fuckers.
Yes, Saints promoted to the Premiership and poor old Portsmouth to League 1. Funny old game saint, as greavsie used to say. :)
Just watched Everton stuff Fulham 4-0.
That Jelavic looks ace. With the exception of Ferguson when he first came down from Scotland I can't think of a better striker we've had since the late 80's.
The Geordies will be sobbing again tonight.
Used to live near NEwcastle. But sod them boys!!!! So another scalp to add to the end of season romp. Wigan must be at least 50-50 to stay up now. 2 games left against poor wolves and another bottom dweller blackburn. On paper easy games, in reality it will probably come down to the final whistle as usual.
Arsenal have agreed the signing of Lukas Podolski from Cologne on a long term contract. That should pave the way for Chamakh and/or Gervinho to wander off somewhere.
95 caps and 43 goals for Germany, and he's only 26. If he has a good Euro that will be excellent business.
Now if they can agree a deal with Van Persie, I'll be a happy Gooner.
STOP and take a step back. Why is this derby game getting so over hyped? Will it be a history defining moment in our clubs rich and trophy laden life? No! Is it the derby where the final result will actually mean that either team will pick up the winners trophy? No! Is it just another game? Yes! Does the outcome mean anything, bragging rights to the fans of the club that win the game, yes to the fans but in the bigger picture IT’S JUST ANOTHER DERBY GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glory Glory Man United

Fergie losing his cool over an innocuous tackle by De Jong. The passion was so high i thought he was going for the scottish kiss when confronting Mancini.
Utd did well to smother City for most of the match but hey, they forgot that to score a goal you need to shoot.
A poor game in terms of goalmouth incident but then it was never about performance, just the result and now much depends on how Newcastle comeback against City following their humiliating 4-0 defeat at Wigan.
Great finish to the season as in 2011 when Utd played Chelsea for the title.
De Jong is a nutter though, I wish someone would break his leg.
We also learned Smalling is no Vidic.
If you take away the racket from the squealing Citeh fans, it was actually a very average game, not much skill on show considering all that money on the pitch.
that was the BBC et al, not the clubsQuote:

lots of good skills on display, a good result for the end of the season
Fergie showing his age
now let's see who can take the pressure.....
De Jong's not very nice, or have you forgotten!
(Oh and Webb is a shit referee as well).
De Jong assault on Alonso - YouTube
He deserves a taste of his own medicine.Quote:
During an international friendly on 3 March 2010, de Jong fractured the leg of Bolton Wanderers' American international Stuart Holden as the result of a late challenge, causing Holden to be sidelined for six weeks. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final he kicked Spanish player Xabi Alonso in the chest, a challenge for which de Jong admitted he was lucky not to have received a red card. On 3 October 2010, in a Premier League match against Newcastle United, a tackle by de Jong on Hatem Ben Arfa resulted in the latter being carried off the pitch with a double fracture of his left tibia and fibula.
Agree Harry, De Jong's one of the 'old school' and is paid to run around intimidating opponents and is rather successful at it.
Referee's should be fairly aware of his intentions and ideally his name should be in the book prior to kick-off :)
give him a yellow card as he is dressing up?
I am sure the various managers must be aware of his skills, so they too must take some of the blame
Seriously injuring opponents is not the same as "intimidating".
In fact United would have done better last night with their resident run-around-kicking-people expert Darren Fletcher.
De Jong is a mental case, even his own international manager dropped him for the Ben Arfa assault.
Yet funnily Martin Atkinson decided even a yellow would have been harsh.
They really have to do something about these gobshite referees.
