Aston Villa v Chelsea
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3236.jpg
The best thing I can say about Chelsea at the moment is that their interim manager Roberto di Matteo is using his common sense. Their performance when they beat Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday was akin to how they played away from home in Europe two or three years ago.
Di Matteo's job has been made easier because he is not having to make long-term decisions about players, or tell them they will be leaving at the end of the season but, by the looks of things, he has made everyone at the club feel a part of it.
All the players are playing for Di Matteo and it is a good scenario for him. He has got some impressive results since taking over and they know he is in charge.
He has clearly told his players that he will be rotating the team because of the big games they have coming up. Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba did not make the starting XI against Benfica but di Matteo had them on the bench as insurance.
Aston Villa, I just worry about. They never looked like they were ever going to score or even remotely trouble Arsenal in their 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium last week.
If you sit back against the Gunners, then you are asking for trouble. You have got to pose a threat at the other end because, if not, you are just enticing their full-backs and Thomas Vermaelen forward.
And I cannot see Villa having any joy against Chelsea either. The Blues are in a good place at the moment.
Prediction: 0-2
Everton v West Brom
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3237.jpg
Everton's last two results - wins against Sunderland in their FA Cup quarter-final replay and at Swansea in the Premier League - have been very impressive and, as they always tend to do at this stage of the season, they have come good again.
Nikica Jelavic has made a big difference to the Toffees since he joined in January because he has started putting the ball into the net, which had been a real problem for them this season.
You never know quite what you are going to get with West Brom, who were unhinged by the pace of Newcastle's front three in their home defeat by the Magpies last week.
So, I have to go for a comfortable Everton win here. They have their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley to look forward to but they will want a top-10 finish to go with it and, with the resources David Moyes has got at his disposal, that would be pretty good.
Moyes came straight out after Tuesday's win at Sunderland to say they are the underdogs in that semi-final against Liverpool, and they probably are because of derby results in the past few years.
But, with the way the Toffees are playing now, they will quite fancy themselves to make it all the way to the final.
Prediction: 2-0
Fulham v Norwich
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3238.jpg
Norwich's win against Wolves last week means they are safe from the drop, although I know their manager Paul Lambert would argue that, with 39 points, mathematically they are not quite home and dry.
The key to them staying up is that they have never gone too long without picking points up which is always important for newly-promoted teams trying to avoid relegation. Because of that, the Canaries have never really been in any trouble.
It is a big ask for them to get anything out of Fulham, though. Martin Jol's side played some decent football in their defeat by Manchester United on Monday, and they were a little bit unlucky not to win a penalty right at the end of that game.
Swansea and United have put a few goals past Fulham at Craven Cottage but, generally, you know they are rock solid at home and I fancy them to return to winning ways here.
Prediction: 2-1
Man City v Sunderland
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3239.jpg
Manchester City have won all 15 of their home Premier League games so you fancy them here, no doubt about it. But, in terms of the run-in for the title, they are just starting to creak a bit.
I don't really understand why Patrick Vieira has come out and talked about referees this week.
At this stage of the season, everybody at City should be keeping their heads down and concentrating on winning games. They are not going to do that by reacting to what Manchester United are doing or saying, or anybody else for that matter.
The problem for City boss Roberto Mancini now is that at every press conference he goes to now, before or after games, the first few questions are going to be about what Vieira has said, or the way United have reacted to it.
Mancini can do without that sort of aggravation, which is something that has crept into football in the past few years because of the sheer number of different media organisations covering it. Everyone wants their own line, but you have to straight-bat the lot of them, or just laugh.
Even so, I still see City beating Sunderland, who were a bit disappointing in their FA Cup defeat by Everton on Tuesday.
The Black Cats didn't really get going and they have not had too many days like that since Martin O'Neill took charge late last year.
He will want a reaction to that FA Cup performance but City go into this match knowing they have to win every game, because they cannot afford any slip-ups now.
Prediction: 2-0
QPR v Arsenal
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3240.jpg
I did have a sneaky feeling that QPR would stay up but, after Djibril Cisse went and got himself sent off again in their defeat at Sunderland last week, I think they are going to struggle.
I thought Cisse and Bobby Zamora would get them enough goals to win enough games to beat the drop but now the former Liverpool striker is out for another four games and QPR will miss him.
It was a ridiculous red card to get, too. It wouldn't have been so bad if Cisse had come from another country having never played in the Premier League before but he's been at a couple of English clubs before. He knows how it works so there can be no excuse for making a tackle like he did.
QPR were brushed aside too easily at the Stadium of Light and they face an even tougher task here against an Arsenal team who are have won their last seven league games and are just in great form.
Rangers' defence is fragile at the best of times, and you fear for them against a free-scoring Arsenal side. The Gunners will create lots of chances at Loftus Road and, in Robin van Persie, they have got the person to take them.
Prediction: 0-3
Wigan v Stoke
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3241.jpg
Wigan had a great win at Liverpool last week, which was fully deserved, but this time they are up against a Stoke team that will pose them a completely different set of problems.
At Anfield, everybody understandably expected Liverpool to win. Now that Wigan have won there, people will think they should beat Stoke, but the Premier League doesn't quite work like that, which is one of its many attractions.
Stoke will make things difficult for the Latics and I find that if Roberto Martinez's side don't start well in games then they tend not to finish them well either.
Because of that, it might be a frustrating day for Wigan because they will be keen to build on that win at Anfield and, in their predicament, they have to make their home games count.
Prediction: 1-1
Wolves v Bolton
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3242.jpg
This will be a difficult day for Bolton because it will almost be back to reality for them after such an emotional couple of weeks.
As a club, they have been in a strange situation with what has happened to Fabrice Muamba, who thankfully is now recovering from the cardiac arrest he suffered during their game with Tottenham, and have probably been in a bit of a bubble in many ways.
So it will be very interesting to see what happens to Bolton now.
Understandably everybody wanted them to beat Blackburn last weekend, which they did. The reaction from their fans and players was great and they were competitive when they went back to Tottenham to replay that FA Cup tie too, although Spurs ended up winning quite easily.
I just have a feeling Wolves are going to win this game, and I also think that Terry Connor's side are going to start to gamble more. They have to go for it because they are past the point of no return.
In terms of team selection, Wolves have got to be a little bit more attacking. This is not a game where they can sit back and try to nick a 1-0 win.
And if Wolves do win it would be a massive scalp for them, particularly as it reels Bolton back into the dogfight at the bottom.
Prediction: 2-0
SUNDAY
Newcastle v Liverpool (1330 BST)
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3243.jpg
If you took the Carling Cup out of Liverpool's results in 2012, then they are very average to say the least.
Their league form has been extremely poor and in the last three games, defensively, they have not been very good. They are clearly missing Daniel Agger's presence at the back.
Generally, the Reds create lots of chances whoever they are playing. That is still the case, apart from in last week's defeat by Wigan, but I think they will probably go to Newcastle and play a little bit tighter than usual because they need to stop the rot.
Newcastle looked a very good side in their win at West Brom. They picked the Baggies off easily and I was very impressed.
In the summer, the Magpies will be able to look back at this season with some satisfaction, but I'm not sure Liverpool can do the same.
One of the problems for the Reds lies with some of their signings in the last 18 months. Has Jose Enrique improved them? Yes. Have Craig Bellamy and Luis Suarez? Of course they have.
But have Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam done the same? I would say that, at the moment, probably not.
At the end of the season you can evaluate what your players have done for you over the course of the campaign. Who has had a good season, and who hasn't.
Downing did well in the Carling Cup final but that was against a Championship team and he is yet to score a Premier League goal for Liverpool, which I find amazing.
In terms of goals, players like him, Adam (two league goals) and Henderson (one) should be chipping in to compliment Luis Suarez and Craig Bellamy's output and, along with Carroll (three), I think they should have 30 league goals between them by now.
Those goals would make a massive difference. The total for me from those sort of players in a good team is 30.
Even when you count Steven Gerrard [five] and Dirk Kuyt [two], they don't make it halfway to that amount, which is quite conservative. The midfield players should have five each, and Carroll should be on at least 10. Therein lies the story of Liverpool's season.
They have started to get more men forward since Jay Spearing has come in, allowing Steven Gerrard to join the attack but as can be seen from their goal tallies, Henderson and Downing just don't get into the box. It is not like those two are missing loads of chances every week.
Maybe the best thing Liverpool can do is give former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll a start against his old club.
Carroll has only started 21 of Liverpool's games this season but, when he has done, they have a 62% win percentage compared to a 38% win percentage without him.
Prediction: 1-1
Tottenham v Swansea (1600 BST)
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3244.jpg
Tottenham have been on a bad run but I think they have had their blip and they will kick on now.
They could easily have got three points against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week and they also dealt with Bolton in the FA Cup to book a semi-final trip to Wembley. Now I can see them getting three points against Swansea to stay in touch with Arsenal in the race for third.
I feel a bit sorry for the Swans because they were so, so good against Fulham and Manchester City but then Everton picked them off last weekend and I suspect Tottenham will do the same at White Hart Lane.
Prediction: 2-0
MONDAY
Blackburn v Man Utd (2000 BST)
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/03/3245.jpg
These are the games that Manchester United win. They just know what it takes against teams at the top or the bottom of the table.
I have said many times about Blackburn being extremely competitive. They can score goals and I do still think they will stay up. But Ewood Park is a big pitch and, as we know, United make the pitch even bigger with their pace and their width.
Blackburn won at Old Trafford at the turn of the year after United dropped Wayne Rooney but David de Gea threw a couple into his own net that day and as good as gifted Rovers the three points.
De Gea was all over the place. If he plays on Monday, and I think he will, then Blackburn will no doubt chuck all sorts of crosses at him, though the young Spanish keeper has got better since then.
I think everyone was in agreement that De Gea would improve but, in the first part of the season, United were fortunate because their outfield players were getting him out of the mire. Now he has come back, and he has got stronger.
He was always going to be a good goalkeeper, it was just going to take him some time. It looks at the moment as if he has now started to grasp what it takes to play in the Premier League and, in terms of those troublesome crosses, I also think he now knows when to come and when not to come.
I think he will find next year, when United will also have centre-back Nemanja Vidic back from injury, will be like a walk in the park for him compared to this year.
Prediction: 0-2
WIgan win again!
the bottom dwellers are catching up the mid table teams. A lot of the smug buggers are now looking over their shoulders.
Now wigan will get at least 6 points out of the next 3 games all easy games. So we will be fine no problems.:mid:
sunderland almost caused a shocker leading 1-3
with 15 mins left.
man city claw back to 3-3.
strewth.
That's who England need as manager, Martin O'Neil, a guy with drive and passion. Not that prick Redknapp, I never see the guy get excited
Kenny Dalglish is now the 7/4 favourite in Sky Bet's next Premier League manager to go betting market after Liverpool's 2-0 loss at Newcastle.
The Reds boss had been backed in to 4/1 following the 2-1 defeat to Wigan at Anfield last weekend, but a sixth defeat in seven games has seen his price cut even further.
Sky Bet's Stephen Parkes said: "Things are going for bad to worse at Liverpool and punters have reacted quickly to back Dalglish to leave Anfield.
"Losing Pepe Reina to suspension for their FA Cup semi-final with Everton is yet another blow, especially given further cup glory is all they can really hope for now this season."
Alex McLeish is the 5/2 second favourite with Aston Villa just five points clear of the drop-zone following their 4-2 defeat to Chelsea, while seemingly England-bound Harry Redknapp is 4/1.
Liverpool were bad today but Newcastle were also very good and i can't take anything anyway from them. Reina was silly and the red card was the right result, even if he didn't actually touch Simpson. The intent was there and i doubt it will get recinded. Carrolls dive was ridiculous, would of been easier to score than try and con the ref for a penalty! I'm just glad the ref saw it and took the right action.
Misfiring £35million Liverpool striker Andy Carroll can still end the season with a bang - a surprise call-up for England's Euro 2012 finals campaign. yes him and heskey could be a lethal partnership lol
That coming after drawing with a Championship side in the Mickey Mouse Cup and scraping through on Pens.Quote:

GOALLiverpool 0-1 Aston Villa - Chris Herd (10 mins)Great finish from Chris Herd - but woeful defending from Liverpool. Stephen Warnock's cross from the left is flapped at by Alexander Doni in the goal, Barry Bannan cuts the ball back in to the area and Herd has all the time in the world to walk on to it and plant a marvellous finish into the top corner.
Robbed again. How much did Chelsea pay that bleeding linesman!!!!! This is not fair, anymore decisions like this and I am taking my bat and ball home!!!!!!!
I have to agree with you that was shite for Wigan
