I should have checked the tea leaves, Pak are in a right mess. Last series lost to Bang and the same thing happened in one of the matches, declared well ahead and followed it with a massive collapse in the second innings. Heads are gonna roll, possibly quite litterally. What match for Eng tho. I think there will be a review of the Multan roan and the Rawlpindi Groundsman will hhave some very specific instructions

Great bowling effort by Eng. I really thought the Pak bowlers would be showing us the way. 19 wickets on a road, albeit tge Pak batters were a bit feeble.

    Great result.

When Pakistan passed 500 it looked difficult for England. Then they managed an astonishing 823 in reply. Then they took Pakistan down for 220, to win by an innings and 47 runs. Impressive.

    LIKE I PREDICTED.

Harry Brook is turning out to be a real asset to England and could throw a spanner in the works during the next Australian Ashes retaining attempt.

The Aussies worked out Root about a decade ago but I feel Brooks is still a mystery.

Joe Root's average against Australia is over 40.

Better than your heartthrob Travis Head's average against England.

But yeah, well done on 'talent spotting' Harry Brook.

    Crikey....

Pakistan and England told second Test will be played on same Multan pitch

In an extraordinary and possibly unprecedented move, England and Pakistan have been told they will play their second Test on exactly the same pitch on which 2,123 balls were bowled and 1,599 runs scored last week – one already pockmarked at both ends with footmarks and deep cracks.

But though the pitch might be the same, the Pakistan team will not. The fallout from another humbling defeat in the first game of the series, the side’s sixth in a row, has seen the Pakistan Cricket Board shake up their selection committee, adding three new members including the former Test umpire Aleem Dar, and then the line-up itself, with Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi the most high-profile casualties.

While the decision to reuse the pitch has yet to be officially confirmed, both teams were informed about it on arrival at the ground for training on Sunday. The surface was notably lifeless during the first Test, allowing Pakistan to score 556 in their first innings and England 823 in theirs, but with the best part of five days’ wear it is unlikely to be so predictable second time around, with the footmarks offering particular encouragement to both sets of spinners.

“I don’t know if I’m surprised or not really,” said Jimmy Anderson, England’s coaching consultant. “I think with them probably thinking they need a result here, there’s a chance that it would be a result wicket if they’re playing the same one. They’ve obviously watered it and tried to repair it as best as possible, so we’re not sure exactly what we’re going to get, but you’d expect it to not be as flat as it was last week.

“I’m no groundsman, but I don’t think you can make cracks go back together that easily, certainly in three days. You’d expect it to do something off the cracks and with it being dry and hot again, you’d expect the spinners to play more of a part. It’s their decision and we’re not that fussed about it. It’s their home game, they can do what they want.”

On Sunday, Ben Stokes bowled at full pace and with no obvious signs of discomfort, so looks likely to come back into England’s side after recovering from his hamstring injury. Any element of risk in this decision would be reduced by a more spin-friendly pitch, which would make it less likely that he would be required to bowl long spells. “It might play into our hands,” Anderson said.

Afridi is unlucky to be the fall guy there.

Jack Leach looked ready to be the main man in the first test.

The seventh innings could be tough.

    Win toss & bat.

^ yep he's a real threat and be a cracking fast for them. Mastodon was clueless as a Capt, just kept plugging away with hhe same field settings. He's 35 so it's not like he's not been around a bit. What characterises Eng is unpredictability atm, either batting, field placement or bowling and its working.

Pak have enough talent in both batting and bowling depts, but seem to get all Spursy when it counts.

Beautiful delivery from Leach beats Shafiq and flattens his off stump.

England turning the screw, in an important period in this game.

    Bashir needed that one.

Eng cruising at over 200 with Duckett on a ton and then lose 4 wickets for nothing and throw a strong position away.

Fark! Root, Duckett, Brook, Stokes, all gone for 14 runs. How this game shifts, so quickly.

It still looks as if the ground staff shaving all that grass off either side of the wicket will help England.

We have some serious reverse swing merchants, and it isn't the preserve of 'cheats' like Wasim and Waqar any more.

    We've made it respectable.

Tomorrow is a Day 8 wicket.
