Thailand expects to start hosting Formula One race from 2028, marking a key milestone for the Southeast Asian nation’s bid to position itself as a venue for world-class events, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The government will study the investment requirement, economic benefits to Thailand and the possibility of holding the competition in a street circuit, Paetongtarn said in a post on X after a meeting with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali in Bangkok on Tuesday.
Thailand had last year pitched Bangkok as a circuit for a street race that will help burnish the nation’s status as a major tourism hub and draw high-spending tourists. Subsequently, F1 executives visited the Thai capital to survey and study the routes for the race.
About a third of the 24 F1 races scheduled for the 2025 season, which began with the season opener in Melbourne last weekend, will be held on a street or hybrid circuit, compared to around 15% a decade prior.
The street circuit races take place either entirely or partially on closed-off public roads that have been transformed briefly into motorsports venuesr. Singapore, for example, hosts its F1 race on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, located on the city’s waterfront.
Paetongtarn’s administration has built on the efforts of her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, in positioning the tourism-reliant nation as an ideal location to host concerts by the world’s top artists and festivals. The country already hosts a MotoGP race.
Winning the right to host an F1 race will not only be an opportunity to develop the city’s infrastructure but also draw a large number of tourists, the prime minister said. The event can create additional jobs and emerge as a new source of income for the services industry among others, she said.

    Oh yes, the other McLaren.

And Piastri got pole for the race, too, with George a whisker behind.

And no snubby, I glanced at a report without reading it properly.

I'm not a pathetic, angry drunk like you.

Well it looks like McLaren are the team to beat, Piastri wins from Lando whose brake pedal was on the floor in the final lap.

A weekend off before this Asia Pacific tour continues in Japan.

Both Ferraris DQ'd, one for being 1kg underweight and the other for excessive skid plank wear.

    More stupid Ferrari mistakes.

Although didn't expect they'd make such simple ones, and so soon.

Piastri started from pole and dominated the race, Lando never had a chance. The brake pedal is a nice excuse, though.

I made no mention of it affecting his chances of catching Piastri. It happened late on and could have cost him 2nd.

If you understood the sport, I wouldn't have to explain these simple things to you.

Just when you think Ferrari have got their act together, they manage to find a new way to screw up.
I think Sir Lewis can bring a lot to this team, he won't want them to fail. And they have to listen to him. Despite the critics saying it was the wrong move for Ferrari and the wrong move for Lewis, he's too old, blah, blah, blah. He out qualified his teammate, who has a reputation as a great qualifier, in both the sprint and the main race. He won the sprint (Charles was 12 seconds behind in fifth) and he was just 2 seconds down on Charles in the main race and catching him fast, also setting the fastest lap of the race. Overall a strong day for Lewis. Some pundits thought Charles would be showing up Lewis as a has-been. So far, not.

I find it hilarious that they are claiming Pepe's underweight problem was due to him doing a one stopper.

How the fuck does an experienced F1 team not factor this in?

And frankly the skid plank violation is a schoolboy error, too.

    Jaysus that's a bit early.

Liam Lawson has endured a dismal start to his Red Bull career after struggling in the opening two rounds of his first season with the team; Sky Sports News understands Red Bull are considering replacing him with Yuki Tsunoda for next month's Japanese Grand Prix

P2 was more red flag time than track time. Trackside grass caught fire twice. Doohan very hard into the wall, reportedly okay, the car looks like a basket of bits.
FWIW, Sir Lewis again a fraction faster than Charles.

A rich irony in that. Horner will be hoping that Yuki can pass Lawson on the track, while Lawson will be trying hard not to let that happen.

I am not a Max fan, but there is a reason why he is world champion and that qualy lap was exceptional. Let's see how Turn 1 unfolds.
