Primatologist Davis Okoye shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

'Cobra Kai' is up (the first two episodes are free on YouTube, and the other eight are available on YouTube Red or via download on TPB and others)- it's actually pretty good through the three episodes I've watched so far- it's basically the story from Johnny's perspective:

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Just because it popped up today, even though it was from 2006, if you're short of something to watch and haven't seen it, try The Prestige.

I only just noticed that Christopher Nolan had the directors chair.

After a tragic accident two stage magicians engage in a battle to create the ultimate illusion whilst sacrificing everything they have to outwit the other.
    Director: Christopher Nolan

Talking of oldies I downloaded and started to watch Blue Murder that someone suggested on here.

It hasnt aged well, with the square screen and done in glorious technicolor and the audio was shite too. Its like watching the Aussies over enthusiastic answer to The Sweeney. Deleted and re watching Fargo Season 1.

Its amazing how much of it I'd forgotten and is in a class of its own.

I got about half way through To Live and Die in LA and packed it in for the same reason.

The 80's synth soundtrack is painful, the upturned collars and big hair distracting, but most of all the screenwriter is aiming for Raymond Chandler style pithy one-liners and missing badly.

The screenwriter was William Friedkin and the author of the book, so a bit of an amateur, obviously.

The soundtrack was Wang Chung, you're right it was an odd choice but they were a big hit in the US at the time.

    Shame you didn't continue.

Authors don't always make great screenwriters.

Watched "The Dark Valley" last night, and found it very good. Set in a remote village in the Austrian mountains in the late 1800's, it has a very western (cowboy) feel about it in spite of the location. The plot is centred on a stranger who arrives in the village, the village being dominated by one family. Language is German, but excellent English subtitles courtesy as usual by 'Sno'.

Been watching NYPD Blue lately. All six seasons are available. Good classic NY cop show; stood the test of time well. About 120 episodes. Been watching one or two a day. Think it completed its run about a decade ago.

I remember watching 'Hill Street Blues' as a kid, my dad was a big fan.

Probably the granddaddy of all these police / procedural shows.

I always remember that Dennis Franz guy from that.

There's a bit of a trivia link also: the creator (I think) of NYPD Blue remembered David Curuso(sp?) - the ginga dude - from a guest spot he did as a gang leader on Hill Street Blues and cast him.

Half way through series 7 of Homeland.

You would expect that a series from the TV revolution that starts off sharp would inevitably go into decline by series 7 but this seems to be one of the sharpest series from the sequence.

It used to be fun because it would introduce you to a new global region with each series. Now it has settled back into home territory and the last couple of series were a bit average but this new one is having a crack a few topical issues (Trump, Russian meddling etc.) with some results.

Only half way through so the jury is not in yet.

Daines finally learns how to play the bipolar character without resorting to the ridiculous gurning that she did previously.

After six seasons of practice she has finally got it.

Once the ridiculously hammy Brett O'Keefe is sidelined things improve further.

It's still daft at times of course, but decent entertainment.

it was crap, Season 7 would have been better without her

however, the current events are so close to episodes of Season 7, you have to wonder if their writers are not scripting our reality and we are all living in a giant Netflix matrix

Took a look at two early episodes today. Too outdated. But great in its day!

Second time around of "Underbelly" is still a great series - and Aussies are much easier, at least for me, to understand than many Brits.
