Based in Seattle, Washington, it's a dark detective show. The characters are very real, the scenery real Pacific Northwest.

A brutal murder, political undertones, all good stuff.

2011-2014. It's a US remake of a Danish TV series, but shouldn't be discounted for that reason.

It's very well done. I'm about 4 episodes into SEA1.
I liked 'the Killing', but this - The Bridge (TV Series 2013?2014) - IMDb was much better. I can't believe they shut it down. it was also originally a Danish/Swedish show.
The Brits remade that as "The Tunnel".

I've said it before, but the Swedish series "Real Humans" is pretty good if you like though-provoking sci-fi.

The US/UK version was utter shite in comparison.

I saw 4 or 5 of the Scandinavian version and about the same # of the Tunnel. I liked 'em all, but the US version the best and the Tunnel 2nd. The differences between the cultures is what made it interesting for me and there just isn't that much between Danes & Swedes. I've been to Juarez and it's fucking scary.

As I was digging around, I also found "Damages", a five-season legal thriller starring Glenn Close. I like her acting, and the concept of only one case being pursued each season sounded interesting. I just downloaded SEA1 and am going to give it a try. I will review later, unless another poster has already watched the series and cares to comment. I think it ran 2007-2012.

The Original "Murder One" was pretty good. The sequels were diabolical.

Binged up to episode eight myself. Really interesting stuff. It basically documents the life of a real bonafide psycho motherfucker from hell. Colombia looks quite pretty, though.

What makes it for me, is the character development they've put into it.

Even though the series is named Ray Donovan, as Slap and Davis point out; there are some sterling performances from his screen brother Terry, Eddie Marsan... and dad Mick, Jon Voight.

And who can hate Bunchy and Darryl ?

One thing Ray Donovan and NCIS, one of the most popular TV serie, have in common is a strong lead character who takes care of his "family". I believe these shows are popular because a lot of viewers unconsciously dream to be part of Ray Donovan's family or Gibbs' team or to play this role for they loved ones.

^but they are all fcukin weirdos

the daughter looks like an alien
I can see the son is being set up for some pedo/poof story
the wife is a spoilt whiny wench
one brother is looking like he is going to become a homo
other brother is cnutstruck - he should have gone to mexico and shagged a few hookers
the father is just a continual scammer
the black bloke is slightly normal
ray is overdone with everything goes smooth for him
the russian helper and the lez chick are not too bad

I find myself cringing many times watching the series and am close to the point of saying fcuk this sh1t

like house of cards , the bad is starting to outweight the good

^I suspect you are in a minority of one in this case. The very fact that the characters are so flawed is what makes the show. Every character is flawed, yet they all are interesting and strangely compelling - other than the daughter.

Last night I watched the first 2 parts of The Trials of Jimmy Rose and the third and final part is being show on Sunday ( so should be up on Monday ) .
Renowned actor Ray Winstone plays the career criminal, who expects to come out of prison – after a 12 year stretch – to be welcomed back into the bosom of his family but it isn't plane sailing!!

After sitting through mind numbing hours of Sons of Anarchy, a show where bikers are constantly hugging and professing their love for each other, and never ask for help but rather "reach out" to one another, a thinly veiled metaphor for giving a reach around, I am now firmly convinced that the American biker community has been overrun by homosexual Freddy Murcury types, Tig Tragers man love for the big chick with a dick being accepted with little more than envey tinged amusement being the most obvious giveaway.
I gives it a healthy 9/10 for irony but a sad 2/10 for machismo, and I'm staying on four wheels for now on least I is mistaken for an American shirt lifter
