Interesting, I've seen Hot Fuzz and thought it ok for the genre but not really my type of film. Letters From Iwo Jima I saw the first 30mins with my wife and she hated it. Fortunately they were running it with subtitles (in the UK) and hadn't advertised it that way, so I demanded my money back and got some free tickets. The others are on my watch list.

No Country for Old Men was my favourite too.

    Renaissance (2006)

Animated movie seven years in the making. The animation is black and white, and I mean, black and white, no grey. Only word for the quality of animation is stunning.
Takes place in Paris in the year 2054. A girl goes missing and an investigation is started.

7/10 for movie. 10/10 for animation. Very atmospheric.

    American Gangster

Denzel Washington (the bad black guy) versus Russell Crowe (the good white guy) in a Ridley Scott gangster movie.

Ridley Scott can make some first class films, and this is one of them. By far the best movie around at present. It would be a crime to spoil it. 8+/10

I was reading on Thai Press Reports that this movie really got slammed. Apparently the Thaicentric writer on the Reports (it was more of an editorial) reversed the story that claimed it was true and accused some U.S. servicemembers of importing heroin into the States back during the Vietnam War days. The writer said the movie was about as Thai "as American Fried Rice."

The last movie that I saw was "Saw." I would have to say that the movie was quite sick. I can't understand how there were three sequels to the movie. Part four is out at the theatres now.

There are some scenes set in Bangkok that involve semi-naked girls and drugs, which could be considered to show Bangkok in a poor light, but then there are scenes set in New York that show America to be more corrupt than Thailand.

Perhaps the NYPD should campaign to get the film banned.

^^^Typical Thailand can't deal with the reality of the situation. That is they were one of the World's major opiate producers and distributors. They are still a minor producer, but they remain a major trafficking centre for opiates from the SEA region.

Watched the R1 DVDR of American Gangster last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Hitman (2008)

This was just okay. I mean, the action sequences are pretty cool, just don't expect a deep plot - which is full of holes. For example, there's a scene in an underground subway where the main character goes up against 3 other guys who are trained assassins, just like him. Just when you think he's gonna get it, he nods to all of them and suddenly all 4 guys produce swords. So these guys are always carrying swords just in case this scenario pops up? And he somehow gets away from 3 assassins who are just as deadly as himself. Yeah, right. There are loads of scenes like this that just don't make any sense. Still, enjoyable for what it is - a popcorn action flick.

    Downloaded it on your recommendation.

Good movie, good twist towards the end
Likewise downloaded and watched. Very good movie indeed. The budget limitations are certainly apparent but don't detract much from the film. I liked a lot of the music too. Unfortunately I managed to guess the twist at the end. Not claiming any special insight on my part, it was purely a guess and 9 times out of 10 I would've been wrong, but it kinda spoiled it a bit for me.

I watched a half decent movie last night.

    England 19: Wales 26.

very average beginning, no real cohesion but the second half was excellent.
    Lots of passion and atmosphere.
I'll try not to give the ending away, but I certainly didn't see it coming.

^ Charley, will do. Will have to check from home this evening though unfortunately. I think it was a Pirate Bay torrent? Do remember it wasn't particularly well seeded though.
