Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I pull plenty of movies recommended here (or when having a gander for a movie to watch) on this website:

    https://yts.ag/

Usually have a choice of 720 and 1080p.

It's been a reliable go-to website for years now.

^I use that on occasion when I'm just browsing. But to find a specific movie or tv show, Kickass or Piratebay. Now and then YIFY will toss up a gem or two.

Usually if I find something cool on YIFY, I'll go download it from KA or PB. For some reason stuff I d/l directly from YIFY usually has very low volume.

Most of what is on YIFY is on RARBG in multiple formats.

A very good animated feature: Khumba (2013) and I give it 7.5/10.

    IMDb: 5.8/10

    Rotten Tomatoes: 44%

    Roger Ebert: 1.5/5 ???

    Brief synopsis:

After his herd rejects him for having only half his stripes, a young zebra (Jake T. Austin) sets out on a mission across the Karoo Desert to find the legendary water hole where the first zebras got their distinctive markings.

Hey, I didn't recognize him (never read the full cast members' list). Now I recall him as the evil creature who stole aboard the ark. I have loved his performances since Sexy Beast, which was his best performance that I have seen. He wasn't too bad in The Departed either. I just noticed one performance I haven't seen yet in Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). I've already seen and liked The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016)

Many thanks for reminding me of him or I prolly never would have found Snow White and the Huntsman, which I'm sure I'll like anyway.

    Could be my next review.
“The Master said, At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

Thor: The Dark World - 2013

I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting to.

It has been sitting on my hard drive for donkeys. I downloaded it before reading the review by the movie critic I most admire David Stratton (sadly now retired) who gave it a toe curling 1.5/5

I will not try to explain the story as I have not the foggiest idea what was going on. The sci-fi wizardry is woven into scenes in 21st century Lahndahn.

Just crack a couple of beers and let the ubiquitously stunning FX flow over you.

    7/10

I just watched snow white and the huntsman 2012. It was beautiful, more than anything: the sound track, casting, leads, acting, scenery, how easy it was to suspend disbelief action galore: 9/10

Exodus Gods and Kings (2014). As good as Noah was bad. Sure. it was a story from the bible. But the entire treatment, for lack of a better word, was like a novel made into a movie. The movie was much better than the book whereas, for comparison, not only was The Martian worse than the book but also worse than Exodus.

But the thing everybody will have to overcome is that they all know the story backwards and forwards. And, sure enough, you'll find that you know what's coming next at times and you won't be wrong. Still nothing disappointed me. But since it didn't receive any awards and the only nomination of any note it received was International Film Music Critics Award (IFMCA) Film Music Composition of the Year, 8/10

    Eddie The Eagle

Rather twee and probably fanciful and embellished version of the tale of hilariously bad British Olympic ski jumper (or ski dropper as he was also called in the press) Eddie Edwards. A tad over sentimental but if you can stomach the sweetness then it is a reasonably easy way to spend 106 minutes.

    Eye in the Sky

Decent tense drama about the gobally involved morals and international politics around a drone strike where the collateral damage can be estimated in advance based on live drone footage and has to be weighed up at length before a strike can be cleared.

Helen Mirren looks like a bit of an old lady to be an army colonel somehow.

    "American Hustle" (2013).
Pretty good sexy 70's crime caper starring Christian Bale (with a hilarious comb-over hair do), and the rather lovely Amy Adams as his partner-in-crime and mistress.
Directed by David O. Russel, but Martin Scorcese should sue, because this looks exactly like one of his films, minus the extreme profanity and violence in a lot of his best stuff. (De Niro also makes a decent cameo in this).
Great 70's muzac soundtrack and acting lifts up a rather limp plot, and I enjoyed it immensely. 8/10 for me.

^Yup, thought so too. With a few notable exceptions ("The Shining", original "Carrie"), a lot of good Stephen King novels have turned into celluloid clunkers.

    Midnight Special

From the director of 2012's excellent Mud is this edgy enigmatic close encounters style sci-fi thriller.

Joel Edgerton and Michael Shannon are very good as the parent/chaperone of a kid with special powers trying to phone home.

Strange religious overtones from the cult who are initially protecting the child and reading messages into the communications he is channelling from the other side.

    Last night I watched 'Warcraft'.

Pretty average I thought though fans of the game might like it. I mention it now though more because it was a cam version and there seems to be some sort of new technology behind it. Where previously cam copies were invariably shit the last few I have tried have all been completely watchable and other than a slight color-drain no quality issues at all.

I finally got around to Hail Caesar! 2016 directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. There is no criticising these guys on technical ability. Their films are tight, well-edited, and beautifully art directed. I liked the cameo appearances, I liked the setting and mood, I liked most of the humor however I think the film is disappointing overall because it treats the Hollywood communist witchhunts of the fifties trivially and builds ploddingly to a disappointing and unsatisfying climax. It adds up to a sum that is less than its parts.

    The Rum Diary, 2011

with the beautiful Amber Heard, nothing more, quite hot, but she smells trouble

Deep should have known from the start she was going to fuck him over, in that movie she is demonstrating her talents in that regard

Saw that recently myself. Very entertaining.
Apparently based on Hunter S Thompsons early years.

I had been meaning to watch this again for a while since I remembered enjoying it 1st time. When I saw the sequel (Winters War) coming out I watched Snow White from 2012 again and it is still good.

The follow up The Huntsman Winters War is quite contrived and lame by comparison and the visuals are not even as good which might have saved it a bit.
