Ahem....a lot....has....changed since the.....1980s.I went to the Phillipines for 6 months in the '80s and thought it was a great place
Ever heard of a travel agent?could be worth a try perhaps - maybe even a visa run although it's a bit far - any ideas on the cheapest air ticket?
Only for those that are morons. Let's hope it stays that way.Seems to be fairly well off the radar for teachers and tourists alike not sure why really
you mean it's a destination for morons or off the radar for morons?
Normal people? where are you hiding those ??
You can find work teaching english in th phils but it will be few and far between. so i would not count on it keeping your belly full there, but beer is around 40 cents a bottle and i am assuming alot of you gentlman are on a mostly liquid diet so you won't starve to death.Security in th phils is not as bad as some government warnings make it sound. however be warned, As i know most of you gentleman on teakdoor and ajarn are highly political, what ever you do DON'T TALK POLITICS IN THE PHILS or the guy with the guitar case may pay you a visit. political killing happen often there. and if you make the wrong guy mad in the phils , they will not care you have white skin, they will kill you. stay out of places like davao ( mosly south) and you will not have problems. filipino food is very bland compared with the thai food , you will be dissapointed.
I did spend a few years in the PI during the seventies and eighties.
Haven't been there for about 17-18 years, it is very unsettling all this talk of the issue of safety. I will be checking out in 2007 and will report back.
Hey CE,
Maybe ask these folks who offer a TEFL cert program about getting a job in the Philippines:
TEFL Philippines,TESOL Courses,ESL English Teaching Certificate,Jobs
Mabuting kapalaran!

But you must realize that there are tens of thousands of English speaking white men married to Filipinas that have retired and moved to the Philippines so your chances of making a real go at it are very slim !!!

Well I never went to the Phillipines but taught in Thailand for about 6 months after writing that post.
Can't say it appeals to me any more - I had some grand plan that I would teach my way around SE Asia with Thailand as the base -
Fuck that is my plan now though - 6 months teaching in Bankgok was enough -
