Undercurrent of unrest grows stronger in Khon Kaen

What you guys in the bonnies up to now. Can you not just enjoy a beer and have a laugh

    'Undercurrent' grows stronger

The "political undercurrent'' involving supporters of the ousted government is becoming stronger in Khon Kaen, with an anonymous open letter circulating in the province.

"Political undercurrent" is a term used by the coup makers to refer to Thai Rak Thai supporters who are feared to be preparing acts of rebellion against the new government.

The anonymous letter was sent to government agencies in Khon Kaen from Pak Chong post office in Nakhon Ratchasima. It consists of two pages with the pictures of 14 people, including Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda with the caption "A person who is rich in charisma ... The Instructor".

The photo of General Surayud Chulanont's photo is captioned "nominee PM", General Sonthi Boonyaratglin "the person who took orders", Kaewsan Atibodhi "time to take revenge", Sondhi Limthongkul "Chinese rebel" and Maj-General Chamlong Srimuang "skin head, the leader of the blood suckers".

The letter also has a photograph of deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra with the caption "PM Thaksin ... The poor will never forget you. We will always wait for you."

A Special Branch police officer said yesterday that several government agencies had confirmed that the "undercurrent" exists, even though it has not yet developed into a mass movement. It is being carried out secretly across the country and is being monitored by police. At one stage it involved former senators and MPs.

Khon Kaen University Assistant Professor Buapan Prompakping said the CNS must lift martial law so that opponents would be able to organise their activities openly and the government could deal with them more easily.

"If the government cannot stop the undercurrent, it will be hard to handle the political situation when Thaksin returns," he said.
Third Army Region commander Lt-General Chiradet Kacharat said the military was prepared for acts of opposition against the government. "If the situation is serious, we can move our force within half an hour," he said.

I spent soe time among the educated and educators of KK a couple years back. To a person they DID NOT support and endorse any of Taksin's principals or policies. Obviously an attempt to rally support among the un or under educated in a permanently depressed area wher a 500 baht note can be perceived as "helping" the poor.
I seriously doubt the "Open Letter" was written by anyone truly concerned about the welfare of "The Poor." Could be either a ploy of the TRT to manipulate the emotions of poor rice farmers or maybe even the Junta to justify future actions? Somehow I doubt the latter; but, it would be quite difficult to convince me it was posted by someone truly concernd about the plight of the Isaan denizens.

there are all sorts of rumors flying around from supposed troop movement, to "social visit" paid to #1 old sage by detox's bitch.

the power game aint over yet, all sorts of undercurrents veing for pole position.

if they make it to the next elections (now talk has them scheduled for Dec. 07...) with little or no blood running in the streets this would be a "nice coup"...

but there are many unponderable variables that could happen betwix now and then, anything from the numero uno crowned head kicking the bucket to some shit stirring pisshhead sneaking back in to the los overland or worse yet some fith column opportunistic bonobos throwing wrenches at the already installed primates.

wait and see - keep me dosh abroad and plan b,c,d and e on front burner just in case

The support is real and it's coming from the ban nok folk who have come to sorta depend on the money that Taksin doleD out to individual villages. THE MAIN SUPPORTERS ARE THE VILLAGE HEADS AND THEIR HELPERS WHO STAND TO LOOSE THE MOST AS THEY ADMINISTER THE CASH...NO MORE FREE BEER!
