The anti-government United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) has opened a centre for healing the people affected by the recent political violence at 5th floor of the Imperial shopping centre in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district, UDD co-leader Jatuporn Prompan said on Friday afternoon.
At a joint press conference at the shopping centre, Mr Jatuporn said after the government had used force to disperse the red-shirts protesters at Ratchaprasong Intersection on May 19, UDD has difficulties in taking actions to help its supporters suffered from the violence, due to several limitations.
However, the UDD has resolved to set up the remedy centre to provide needed assistance for the red-shirts families whose members were killed and injured in the incident. The centre has an initial fund of 1.5 million baht, he said.
The list MP of the opposition Puea Thai Party confirmed that a large number of red-shirts were suffering from the unrest’s consequences.
“If Puea Thai wins the next general election and become a government, 10 million baht financial assistance will be given to each red-shirt who lost his or her life”, said Mr Jatuporn.
The outspoken MP insisted that the planned cash offering is a reward for the family members of the red-shirts who turned out to protect the country’s interest.
He claimed that the decision to set up the healing centre has got approval from ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Joining the news conference included Sunee Luangwichit, acting secretary-general of the Puea Thai Party.
