Thais are pretty racist among themselves when it comes to skin colour, but "black" unmistakably means a foreigner to Thais, IMHO.

when they talk about a dark skinned person they describe them as having: "pew dam"

when they talk about a black person, eg negro or black african person, they say: "dum-dum"

please note that i did not make this up and nor did i have anything to do with teaching the thais to call them "dumdums"!

Funny you should mention this, I have a acquaintance who I only met the once, a gentleman of colour, born in Africa but raised in Switzerland.
