People die from infections all the time - nothing new there.

On the other hand, if this was an anti-biotic-resisteant strain, it would be some concern.

BTW, bird flue is caused by a virus, not a bacteria. The main difference is that bacteria are living organisms, viruses are not.
Any error in tact, fact or spelling is purely due to transmissional errors...

fair enough - but if it is true that 6 kids have suddenly dropped dead well then I would be very very concerned.

Keep us in touch forreaching me either if it is confirmed or if it is a furphy.

    Enterovirus 71

At latest from this VIRUS it is said 8 or 9 kids died in the Korat area from this up to know recognised as enterovirus 71 ....

They are not disclosing much about it being afraid to awaken panic, all the cases reported died in the Maharat Hospital of Korat, 24 to max 72 hours after being admitted in facility...

    Samples were send for analysys...

Looks like they have another outbreak of this in Taiwan as well actually...

Up here we only know the Korat area is touched in Thailand, but who knows more about that ??

The virus can be transmitted by saliva or other body fluids, kids of small age are most vulnerable, it is near 1 week no new case came up...

The Ministry of Public Health is closely monitoring a possible outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) after four children in Nakhon Ratchasima died from a highly-contagious strain of the disease last week.

Kamnuan Ungchusak, director of the epidemiology bureau, said two children aged below five from Nakhon Pathom and Bangkok were under observation after developing HFMD-like symptoms.

HFMD patients suffer from fever, sores in the mouth and throat, appetite loss, a rash and blisters.

The disease, usually found in children aged under 10, is generally not fatal as it tends to be associated with the coxsackievirus A16 infection.

However, in the deaths of the four children, the enterovirus 71 viral strain is suspected to be the killer agent.

"We have stepped up coordination with provincial public health officials to prevent the spread of the disease.

"And the good news is that no new HFMD cases have been reported," said Dr Kamnuan.

Parents should closely monitor the health of their children and isolate them from other family members if they develop flu-like symptoms, he said.

The infectious disease expert said initial tests had shown that a strain of the enterovirus 71 virus was the killer of the four children in Nakhon Ratchasima's Muang, Sikhiu, and Kaeng Sanam Nang districts last week.

Doctors failed to save their lives because their condition deteriorated very rapidly after they contracted the infection, leading to severe brain damage.

"This may not be the type of HFMD that used to hit the province. We were surprised by the quick deaths," said a Nakhon Ratchasima public health official.
The same highly-infectious strain of enterovirus 71-induced HMFD claimed several lives in outbreaks in Malaysia in 1997 and in Taiwan in 1998.

    Killer virus outbreak sparks alerts

health authorities are on alert for more outbreaks of a virus that has claimed four lives in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The Public Health Ministry has asked provincial officials to watch for patients showing symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease, which is also known as coxsackie enterovirus 71.

Four children died from a fast-acting strain of disease last week, the ministry said.

They were diagnosed with what may be a new strain of the disease.

Two other children in the same district who exhibited symptoms of the disease, including a high fever, mouth sores, rashes and blisters are now in hospital under observation.

"The good news is that no new cases have been reported," Kamnuan Ungchusak, director of the ministry's epidemiology bureau said.

Doctors were unable to save the four children because their condition deteriorated rapidly, resulting in severe brain damage, he said.

The virus strain resembled one that claimed lives in Malaysia in 1997 and Taiwan in 1998.
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is not related to foot-and-mouth disease. The former affects infants and children and is contagious.
