    Biker dad killed in Thailand
    17 March 2009

    TRAGEDY: Pools fan Gavin Mann

A DAD has been killed in a head-on motorbike crash in Thailand.

Gavin Mann was riding his bike in the Thai resort of Pattaya when the accident happened on a main road close to pubs and bars.

The 40-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

Mr Mann, who lived in Thailand, was on his black and yellow Honda when he collided with a black Honda Dream at around 6.50am on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses claim they saw his motorcycle lose control and swerve into the other motorcycle on the opposite lane.

The other biker, Boonreung Sakulma, 41, was rushed to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Pretty bad day all round I'd say. Managed to change his shirt somewhere in between.

Observing the process of natural selection never ceases to amuse.

Taking out one of the locals is an unfortunate occurrence but I suppose the poor victim will attribute it to his own dhukka. The death of the idiot Brit of course adds insult to his injury not least because compensation is now impossible.

Perhaps they could sell the Brit's body parts and donate the proceeds to the innocent victim. That could balance the karma a bit and give some purpose to an otherwise apparently useless life.

Family's tribute to biker killed in Thai crash
    26 March 2009

GAVIN MANN: “Life and soul of the party.”

A FAMILY have paid tribute to a father killed in a Thailand road smash after a coroner delivered a verdict of accidental death.

Gavin Mann was riding his motorbike on a main road near to the entrance of the Bun Samphan Temple, in the Thai resort of Pattaya.

Yesterday an inquest into his death ruled that the force of the collision caused the 40-year-old, from Middleton Road, Hartlepool, to suffer severe head injuries and he was declared dead at the scene on Sunday, March 15.

Gavin's brother-in-law ,Ricky Tarrant, – who attended the hearing – said the much-loved labourer was "the life and soul of the party" and will be sadly missed.

Ricky, a computer engineer who is married to Gavin's sister, Andrea, 36, a housewife, said: "He'd been doing some courses to enable him to get work on an oil rig, and had gone to Thailand to visit a friend.

"He'd only got there on the Tuesday, and this accident happened on the Sunday.

"We couldn't believe it, we still can't really. It's very sad and just a tragic loss of someone so young and so fun-loving."

The 43-year-old, who lives in Bishop Auckland with Andrea and their 15-year-old daughter, Leonie, added: "Gavin was full of life and was an adventurer.

"He loved his eight-year-old daughter Georgia and he loved travelling. Years ago he travelled round Europe in a Transit van.

"He was the life and soul of the party and if he was in the room everyone would be laughing. He was a natural-born joker. We can't believe he's gone."

Town coroner Malcolm Donnelly said: "On the balance of probability, Gavin Mann died as a result of an accident. The cause of death given by the Thai authorities is consistent with the evidence available to me."

Mr Donnelly recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Gavin's funeral is being held tomorrow in St Oswald's Church, Brougham Terrace, at 1pm, before burial at Stranton Cemetery.

The guy was a scum bag, why the fuck do you want to defend him for? So what if the prick is dead, he is no great loss.

He hit a young girl with a table and then broke a beer bottle accross her head, the following day when he woke up in the police station he claimed he had no recollection of the night before because he was so drunk.

    Just another low class wanker.

I'm rather amazed at how the real side of this man morphed both over time & ocean, from being a reckless drunken yobo lout who killed himself & injured another innocent Thai road-user - into a saint.

One of lifes' mysteries to me !

Some people once they have a skinfull of booze get this urge to assert themselves by knocking the crap out of someone else !

Maybe its me who is weird 'cos all I want to do if I get pissed is to find a quiet corner and go to sleep !

Acocks Green man killed in Thailand holiday motorbike crash

A HOLIDAYMAKER from Birmingham was killed on a dream trip to Thailand when the high- powered motorbike he was riding collided with a truck which was said to be on the wrong side of the road.

Michael Dalton had hired the 800cc Honda CBR during a three-week break in Pattaya.
Local news reports said the 25-year-old, from Acock’s Green, was killed instantly in the head-on collision after the driver of the pick-up truck crossed to the wrong side of the road.
Today, his heartbroken family paid tribute to the “fun-loving” labourer.
Sister Margaret Corrigan said: “We’re struggling to come to terms with it as a family.
“They were having such a fantastic holiday and it was only the second or third time Michael had been away.
“We’ve seen the police reports and they say that the driver of the truck was on the wrong side of the road when he came over the brow of the hill and he couldn’t stop in time.
“Michael was experienced on motorbikes. He had ridden mopeds since he was 16 and had quite a big bike.”
Michael, who was known as Mickey to his friends, was four days from the end of a sunshine break to the Thai resort with close pal James Teeling when tragedy struck on September 3.
Mr Teeling, aged 23, from Weoley Castle, was riding alongside Michael and is said to be “devastated” by the accident.
Michael had previously spent three weeks in intensive care after being knocked down by a car in Hall Green in April 2008. The former Archbishop Ilsley School pupil was still undergoing therapy for his injuries.
Youngest sister Roseann, aged 26, said: “We were a very close family and Michael was the baby.
“He just loved having fun and winding people up and he got on with everybody.”
More than 300 people have signed up to online tribute group called RIP Mickey Dalton.
An inquest was opened and adjourned in Birmingham this week.
His body will be received in to the Olton Friary in St Bernard’s Road, Solihull, tomorrow before a service at the same church on Monday at 10.15am.
Burial will take place at Widney Manor Cemetery in Solihull.

A mate of mine died of head injuries a few days before Christmas. His cremation was the day before Chritmas Eve. It was a cold, foggy and emotional day. The crematorium was packed with people and most were crying. I didn't feel upset at all. I thought - well he's dead and that's it. I've often thought about this and wonder why I just didn't feel emotional about my friend's death. I wouldn't sign an online tribute as I don't see the point.

It's a huge trap when visiting Thailand, getting on a bike. The first guy in this thread was a twat, was only here for 4-5 days and managed to get to the cop shop for beating up a girl and then kill himself drunk on a bike, fuckwit.

The second guy is a classic case of renting a superbike to be macho, not knowing the deal on the roads or contemplating the myriad of hazards here and thinking there's a highway code in operation. Not the first and won't be the last, sad story but how many times have I read it.

Road accident leaves tourist dead Printer friendly version Send to a friend Posted by admin / 2009-09-20 The Dongtan Police Department were recently informed of a motor accident involving
a high powered motorcycle and a car, on the new Jomtien Second Road, still under construction, which had left one person dead.

On arrival at the scene the police were confronted with a Toyota Fortuner car and an 800CBR motorcycle. The body of the motorbike driver, Mr. Michael Dalton, aged 25, a British national, was found close to his bike; however he was already dead as a result of head and body injuries.

Michael was wearing a crash helmet, however, it was not of good quality, and gave him little protection as it had split and fallen off his head.

The driver of the Toyota, whose name has not been released, was awaiting the officers upon their arrival to give her statement of the events. She claimed that she had been driving in a normal fashion, and within the speed limit, when suddenly two motorbikes approached at a very high speed, and one of them slammed straight into her car, killing the rider instantly.

The body of Mr. Dalton was transported to the Banglamung Hospital, whilst his friend, and the driver of the car, were taken to the police station for further questioning. The British Embassy in Bangkok has been notified.
