Craft Beer Kegs Set for Nationwide Distribution in Thailand

Small-scale brewers and beer merchants across Thailand are celebrating following a Thai cabinet decision to approve amendments to the 2022 ministerial regulation on alcoholic beverage production. The changes will allow craft beer to be distributed nationwide in kegs, marking a major step forward for the country’s burgeoning craft beer industry.

The revised regulation lifts previous restrictions that limited the distribution of craft beer, enabling small-scale brewers to expand their reach beyond local markets. Industry leaders have hailed the decision as a boost for entrepreneurship and innovation in the beverage sector.

“This is a game-changer for us,” said Somchai Rattanaporn, owner of a craft brewery in Chiang Mai. “Being able to distribute our beer in kegs nationwide opens up new opportunities to share our unique flavors with a wider audience.”

Beer merchants also expressed enthusiasm, noting that the move will diversify offerings in bars and restaurants, catering to growing consumer demand for craft brews. The decision is expected to stimulate economic growth in the craft beer sector, which has gained popularity in recent years among both locals and tourists.

Further details on the implementation of the amended regulation are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Nothing like a bit of Jabberwocky first thing in the morning.

Genuinely pleased to see this news. Very helpful to small brewers and good for consumer choice too. I suspect that these craft beers will be pricey, relative to the standard swamp juice. I look forward to investigating.

Wonderful news just as my ability to sup in volume diminishes.
A piss per pint dampens thrists, while I sup me Absinthe Scotch and wine at least youngsters can move beyond the bland piss.
If Beer Lao were allowed as cheaply as Loas they'd all be BLDrinkers.

N England and Irish sea next so some proper real ales and Guinness due before the froth of France and the vino of my Roman holiday.

Any Fuggles fuggers know if hops could do well hereabouts, I recall the Goldings in the Wealden oast houses going to school in 60s. I think like barns they are all converted for city slickers.

I for one am quite chuffed. I've had enough of this damn boon rawd monopoly . It will be a refreshing change not to have to drink that damn Leo,archa, singha etc. Dreadful beer only fit for teflers on small incomes. Beerlao should also be more readily available

    Agree.

Sadly where I live it's all Chang; Leo or Singha. One might find Budwiser or Federbrau but they are still....well...swill;. The odd place may have Heineken.

Obviously Makro has a better selection but I don't usually drink at home/alone.

Worse than no beer. Seriously. Better off drinking a G&T instead.

Not in Chiang Mai it doesn't.

There was a time when the occasional case of heavily taxed Beer Lao was available, but for over a year it's been just the same old Thai brewed goat piss.

I find BeerLao at the Lampang Makro all the time. 6 packs of Lager, Dark, White and IPA. I might be 10bht more a bottle compared to the Thai goat piss but to me its money well spent

While the Keg option is appealing, it only works for large venues. I would like to find it in bottles but lets be honest, most of the "Thai" craft beers are not that good. Yes.... better than the crap like the Leo, Chang and Singha but still not noteworthy nor worth the price. I will gladly pay for the imported IPA's etc.

Pretty sure many of the larger size Big C and Tescos usually stock Beer Lao, and a few of the 7s near here too. Usually 79thb for a 330ml btl.

That's a bit odd, as you moved from living in Laos to living in Australia, and holiday in Bali.

Our Makro had none for months, recently it has had the full set in bottles and cans. As to pricing, 6 small Beerlao cost about double 3 large Leo. Beerlao lager, B299 for 6, IPA B393 for 6. Beer Leo B163 for 3 large ones and probably cheaper by the case.
