Thailand is experiencing extreme heat in many regions, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several areas over the coming days.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that much of Thailand will face extremely hot weather over the next 24 hours, particularly in the North, Northeast, and Central regions. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in some areas. People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activities, and be cautious of sudden weather changes such as strong winds and lightning. The conditions are caused by a heat-induced low-pressure system covering the upper part of the country, combined with southerly and southwesterly winds.
In the South, heavy rainfall is forecast due to southwesterly and southeasterly winds affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Waves in the Andaman Sea may reach about 1 meter, increasing to over 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to avoid navigating in stormy areas.
From April 26th–29th, a moderate high-pressure system from China is expected to move over Vietnam and the South China Sea. This will interact with warm air over upper Thailand, leading to summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, gusty winds, hail, and isolated heavy rain. Some areas may also experience lightning strikes.
Additionally, air quality in the North and Northeast is expected to deteriorate due to the accumulation of particulate matter, as wind strength remains weak.
Bangkok and surrounding provinces will remain generally hot with a 20% chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 27–29°C at the lowest to 35–39°C at the highest.
