Scorching Heat and Storms Grip Thailand

Thailand is experiencing extreme heat in many regions, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several areas over the coming days.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that much of Thailand will face extremely hot weather over the next 24 hours, particularly in the North, Northeast, and Central regions. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in some areas. People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activities, and be cautious of sudden weather changes such as strong winds and lightning. The conditions are caused by a heat-induced low-pressure system covering the upper part of the country, combined with southerly and southwesterly winds.

In the South, heavy rainfall is forecast due to southwesterly and southeasterly winds affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Waves in the Andaman Sea may reach about 1 meter, increasing to over 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to avoid navigating in stormy areas.

From April 26th–29th, a moderate high-pressure system from China is expected to move over Vietnam and the South China Sea. This will interact with warm air over upper Thailand, leading to summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, gusty winds, hail, and isolated heavy rain. Some areas may also experience lightning strikes.

Additionally, air quality in the North and Northeast is expected to deteriorate due to the accumulation of particulate matter, as wind strength remains weak.

Bangkok and surrounding provinces will remain generally hot with a 20% chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 27–29°C at the lowest to 35–39°C at the highest.

It seemed a bit cooler here yesterday.

Tuesday was broiling, but yesterday was more overcast.

    .

Agreed Tuesday was the hottest day around here - 40 degrees and beyond.

Lots of thunder and lightning yesterday, but no rain. We need rain.
Let's hope that the TMD has it right this time and it will be a wet weekend.

Summer Storms Expected in Upper Thailand from April 26th to May 1st

The Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather alert warning of summer storms affecting upper Thailand between April 26th and May 1st.

The storms are expected to bring thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, heavy rainfall in some areas, and possible lightning strikes. The adverse weather is due to a moderate high-pressure system from China spreading over Vietnam and the South China Sea.

This will strengthen the convergence of southeasterly and southwesterly winds across the upper part of the country, coinciding with hot to extremely hot conditions over the region.

People in affected areas are advised to stay indoors during storms, avoid open spaces, large trees, unstable billboards, and poorly constructed buildings. Those living in low-lying or flood-prone zones should watch for possible short-term flooding due to poor drainage.

Not in this part of lower Isaan.
However, this evening we had rain, but not a lot. Lots of thunder and lightning but little wet stuff.

...avoid open spaces, large trees, unstable BILLBOARDS...
Local election garbage is accumulating everywhere near me. There are trucks going by every five minutes making a monotonous din.

Party 3's erection lasted about as long as taxexile's when out on his monthly whore roundup in Harrogate.

    It was a bad sign.

We had a big storm earlier in the week, big enough for the wife to park on a school playing field to avoid the falling trees! Only the rumblings of distant thunder since. Still having to water the garden.
